Jesus Singson

Brigadier General Singson (born in Dolores Abra, Ilocos Sur, Philippines on 14 December 1917) is a former member of the Filipino military. He took his studies in the academe at the University of Manila in 1936 and at Far Eastern University in 1940. His military career started when he joined the Aviation Cadet PAAC Flying School in 1940. He was assigned as Flight Instructor at 4th Air Base Squadron on 1 Oct 1941 then became the Executive Officer on 9 Nov 1941. He was assigned as the Battalion Supply Officer of the 61st FA at Mindanao on 16 April 1942 then as the Ordnance Officer at Bohol Area Command on 1 Jun 1942. When the war broke in 1942 he was commissioned as 3rd Lieutenant in 27 Sep of the same year then promoted to 1st Lt on 21 Jul 1943, then; was tasked as Intelligence Officer of the 7th Military District on 21 Oct 1943.

He enhanced his knowledge in flying by taking a Pilot Refresher Course at Goodfellow, Moore, Luke and William AFBs in USA from 1 Mar 1945 to Jun 1946. He was assigned as Flight Instructor at the 1st Fighter Squadron in FAB on 1 May 1946. He became the Operations Officer of the 7th Fighter Squdron in BAB on 11 Oct 1947, and was promoted to Capt on 24 Mar 1948. From Jan to Jun 1950, he took up Squadron Officers Course at the AFOS, and was promoted to Capt on 28 May 1950, and; subsequently assigned as the Squadron Commander of the 7th Fighter Squadron after completing his course 1 Jun 1950. He became the Operations Officer of HBAB on 9 Jan 1951. He was also sent on schooling abroad at Maxwell, AFB, USA and furthered his knowledge on Squadron Officers Course. He was promoted to the rank of Major (temporary) on 31 Jan 1952. He was assigned as the Squadron Commander of the 534th Air Base Squadron at NAB from 21 Jun 1952 to 16 Sep 1953; became the Wing Inspector of the 205th Composite Wing at NAB on 16 Jul 1953. His promotion to the rank of Major was issued permanent on 2 March 1955, and; again promoted to Lt Col on 1 Jun 1959. He became the Acting Asst Chief of Air Staff at A-3 Division, HPAF on 7 August 1959.

Form July 1959 to Jan 1960, he again went on schooling at Maxell AFB, USA, and took Command and Staff Course and Allied Officer Missile Orientation. He also underwent training on Technical Training Method as observer in Lockland, Kessler, Sheppard, Amarillo, Chanute and Lowry AFBs, USA from Jan 1960 to Feb 1960. He was assigned as Instructor at the Command General Staff School at McKinley on 19 May 1961, and; became the Asst Commander of the AC & GSC on 23 Sep 1963. He took Advance Management Course ay AC & GSC in Mar 1965, and; was assigned as the Executive Officer of the Asst chief of Air Staff, A-5 Division at HPAF on 8 August 1965. He was promoted to Col on 6 Nov 1965. He was tasked as the Phil Military Liaison Officer at Clark Air Base on 2 Dec 1967; assigned as the Wing Commander of 5th Fighter Wing in BAB, Pampanga on 16 March 1968. He became the Vice Commander and Chief of Air Staff of the Philippine Air Force on 1 Jun 1968; promoted to BGen on 1 Jul 1968, and; eventually became the Commanding General of PAF from 8 Sep 1968-15 Jan 1972.

His military service was honored with awards such as: Phil Defense Medal; Philippine Liberation Ribbon; Presidential Citation Badge w/ Oakleaf Clusters; Anti-Dissidence Campaign (Central Luzon); Jolo Campaign; Asiatic-Pacific Ribbon; American Defense Ribbon; Silver Wing Medal, and; Long Service Medal w/ One Bronze Star.
