Jesse "The Devil" Hughes (b. September 24, 1972) is an American musician from Greenville, South Carolina. Hughes is known for his role as frontman of the California-based rock band, Eagles of Death Metal. He cites Little Richard as his biggest musical influence and inspiration.[citation needed]

Hughes graduated from the Greenville Technical College with a degree in Journalism and worked as manager of a Video Depot in the Palm Desert for several years. After playing with a few bands in the Palm Desert Scene and divorcing his wife, he started the band Eagles of Death Metal with his highschool friend Josh Homme (of Queens of the Stone Age). Hughes worked as a speechwriter for the Republican Party and claims his change of lifestyle came when he "found drugs". Hughes has a son named Micah.

He considers rocking out as the frontman of Eagles of Death Metal as "rock 'n' roll lottery fantasy stuff" and is known to have an extremely active stage-presence. While performing, he will often dance and interact with the crowd. He is also credited for being very gracious towards fans, often sending emails, photos, and even homemade shirts to very dedicated fans.

[edit] Pseudonyms

Hughes is known to go by many different nicknames, including "J. Devil" (or simply "The Devil") as well as "Boots Electric" ("Boots" for short) and "Fabulous Weapon" (both of which were band names used by Hughes' father).
