[edit] Wow
I was also told by TruthSeeker1234 (talk • contribs) that I was going to be published..as was Tom Harrison, but have yet to see anything about me...Tom indicated that he just hoped they spelled his name right. Thanks Jersey Devil for helping us stamp out all the nonsense..it means a lot to me. Is serendipity an often visited website...if it is maybe we need to put an alert out over at the administrators noticeboard, since they are encouraging folks to web spam us.--MONGO 07:35, 10 May 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Thanks
Thanks for the barnstar. Incredible what you can find by clicking on "what links here" and adding them to your watchlist. Wonder if he might find it interesting that the serendipity links are being removed by fellow conspiracy theorist Bov. --Mmx1 07:54, 10 May 2006 (UTC)
- That's hilarious. As a math maj I'm sure you appreciate the absurdity of his comments. "A probability less than zero" LOL. --Mmx1 06:50, 11 May 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Diagram
That's quite a obsession with them, I guess. I don't recall who said it, but every good conspiracy theory needs a diagram. The only thing they're missing is the Illuminati controlling it all. Шизомби 17:13, 10 May 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Request for edit summary
Hi. Just a tip. It is good to use an edit summary (and a relevant one) when you contribute. For example the summary of this edit was a bit misleading, referring to a previous section. Just thought I would let you know. :) Thanks. Oleg Alexandrov (talk) 09:31, 11 May 2006 (UTC)
[edit] AFD
Hi. I would like to inform you of this afd:
Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Paul Joseph Watson --Striver 13:07, 11 May 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Rfc
That was an Rfc started by Seabhcan and it wasn't endorsed in the mandatory 48 hours...I put a speedy tag on it after the 48 hours was up and Seabhcan then deleted it...Striver probably just noticed it. Thanks for the heads up though.--MONGO 02:17, 12 May 2006 (UTC)
[edit] It's about time
Yes. It's odd, but Wikipedia' handling of problem users is very inconsistent. Some bad users are deemed vandals and summarily blocked. Others, who may cause just as much or more damage, go through numerous lengthy arbitrations. In the long run it all sems to turn out right. I'm just glad there is a long run. Thanks for all the good you do around here, it's editors like you who make this all work. Cheers, -Will Beback 05:01, 12 May 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Shi'a view of...
Now I see what you mean. But don't leave us--perhaps in a few months we can sneak past AfDs for all the articles when they're not looking. ;) Actually, isn't there some place where you can complain about too many POV edits by a user? There ought to be one. --M1ss1ontomars2k4 05:19, 14 May 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Secondary Comment
See my tenth axiom: the past has passed. You are beginning to re-raise the issue that occured two months ago between you and Striver. I understand, and to some extent agree, that the Shi'a view of... articles are unnecessary, but attacking Striver and those who argue for the inclusion of these articles is intolerable. Consider this a friendly warning to avoid a repeat of the March fiasco. joturner 05:34, 16 May 2006 (UTC)
[edit] This is the exact edit
He currently hosts a cable TV call in talk show called Brian Lehrer Live on the CUNY-TV network available in New York City cable systems on Wednesday evenings from 6:30 to 7:30. It may have come from [1] but is not copyright violation . CR protects not ideas but expression. The edit may have come from the facts of the website. It may have started from their words or not, but it only kept the facts: 1.) He hosts a show 2.) It is currently on TV 3.) it is on CUNY 4) It is live on Wednesday 5) all these are basic facts.
They are so basic that the are just like White pages type telephone listing information. And as Justice OConnor said in Feist v. Rural you cannot copyright mere basic facts. There must be some novelty of expression. I used the facts and adopted my expression. John wesley 12:23, 18 May 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Mexican hate groups
Hi Jersey Devil, I am trying to get a consensus on this page. Right now it looks as thought the AFD will fail, as some want to delete and some wish to merge (thus no consensus). I see the content as being clearly POV, but not everyone does. Can you take a quick look at this page again and expand upon you comments. I would like to see either an outright delete, or a merge, but right now we are headed towards neither. Thanks much Brimba 15:15, 19 May 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Would you reconsider your nomination of the Mexican crime article for deletion?
Someone else created the Mexican crime article and, admittedly, the original text was short and appeared to be a slam against Mexico because it seemed to say "Stay away from Mexico, it's crime-ridden."
However, when my attention was drawn to the article, I saw the potential for a valuable article and so I expanded the text based on Google research and tried to take out the OR and POV text. User:Aguerriero believes this is an important article and has pledged to work on it to further remove OR and POV text.
Would you reconsider your "delete" nomination in the context of the above points? Article deletion page is Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Mexican crime.
Thanx.

[edit] Democracy Now! reverts
Hi JD, regarding reverting on Democracy_Now!, wouldn't 3RR would apply to yourself as well? I added text to the article, then you have reverted it, and I then un-revert it. It would help end the stalemate if you'd discuss what formats are more suitable, otherwise you're engaging in the same behavior. Let's come to an understanding, eh? Wikipedia may not be a democracy, but it is people who interact with each other - let's work together to solve the problem. --plaus 23:38, 19 May 06 GMT
[edit] The Da Vinci Code (film)#Peru
Don't know if the film is really of any interest to you, but maybe you could check the links and the translated quotes for the above section. I'm not sure who authored the section originally. I don't know if the typo is supposed to be systemic or systematic, for example. I took some Spanish, but that was more than fifteen years ago... Шизомби 00:57, 20 May 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Message?
User X added a section for "Wikipedians" to an article and added user Y to that section of the article. X made a second edit adding user Z to the article. The edit summaries were something to the effect that "these users are more notable than the other people in the article." Y reverted, removing the section. X reverted adding it back in with another similar edit summary, then an admin reverted removing the section again. The article was deleted because of an AfD closure that was unrelated to these edits, though most of the parties involved had participated in it. Шизомби 07:07, 30 May 2006 (UTC)

Could someone please explain to this author of the Wikipedia entry for 'Gotchi' why Wikipedia wizards are against neologisms?
The terms Wiki, Wikipedia, Wikipedians are all neologisms. To delete Gotchi would 'hoist Wikipedia by its own petard.' Look that up your Funk and Wagnells.

[edit] Striver
Hi JD! I'm writing to you regarding our friend Striver. I know that he annoys you in several different ways, but most of those are not violations of Wikipedia policies. By reporting his less-than-nice comments to me, you're increasing his chance of crying "Wikistalking!". I'm monitoring his edits regularly and I'm sure you also do. Admins don't have privileges, and I cannot punish someone because he's annoying or treats other editors roughly (as opposed to being plainly insulting, abusing or threatening). As in real life, there are some things that you must put up with. I suggest that you avoid turning Striver-watching into a full-time activity; this will help your stress level, too. Striver is a veritable attention magnet, so rest assured that really bad behaviour on his part will not go unnoticed for long. I'm more worried about those POV forks on Islamic articles, which you need to be an Islamic scholar to decipher and criticize properly. Since this can in time develop into a RfC or worse, please direct your complaints to Striver's talk page, be orderly and to the point, and keep the high ground — replying always with calm. If you find yourself unable to do that, better bite your lip, unwatch him and devote a couple weeks to other parts of Wikipedia. Just a friendly suggestion, which I've found of use myself in the past. —Pablo D. Flores (Talk) 22:17, 5 June 2006 (UTC)
- I sounded patronizing, didn't I? No need to answer. I've just scanned part of Striver's RFC. It said it was "premature". Well, maybe now it's time. The behaviour described there has continued for a year. —Pablo D. Flores (Talk) 22:46, 5 June 2006 (UTC)
No, not at all. I can understand you not wanting one user constantly adding content on your talk page. It is just that no one wants to do anything serious about this.--Jersey Devil 22:52, 5 June 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Names in Peru
Hello. I have a question about names in Peru. I couldn't really find anywhere else to ask it. Is it tradiational, or common, for girls to be given boys names in Peru? Thanks.
[edit] Karwynn
The user Karwynn has been acting pretty trollish, in my view, on the John Kerry talk page. See also our discussion about abortion and the Catholic Church. I'm hesitant to get into a huge argument over this matter, but something about the sentence he prefers ("...is at odds with the Catholic Church") just doesn't sit right with me. I have been entirely civil and even shown a willingness to admit I'm wrong, but he seems to be trying just to force his views on others, and he seems hostile to wording that seems too neutral, claiming it's "softening" the article or something. marbeh raglaim 23:54, 20 June 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Re:"Photoshopped Image"
Hi there. The Image:La Primera-Maradona Cover.jpg has a link to a PDF containing the original image, there it's quite obvious that the image was photoshoped. Besides, Maradona's words make it clear that he has nothing to do with the politics of Peru. Humala's article clearly states that once in Peru, Maradona did not make any political statements as García expected. Finally, you can see the real T-shirt against Bush in this article. [edit] Peruvian leftist parties
Hi, yes, this is a little confusing. I am pretty sure that Frente Amplio de Izquierda is the coalition and MNI is just one of its members, as listed on the FAI article. I trust the list coming from User:Soman, who appears very involved with left-wing politics articles, but I can't find it myself on their website. The Spanish Wikipedia is almost certainly mistaken. Now, Moreno was officially registered by the electoral authorities as MNI's candidate, not FAI's. That is clear from JNE's and ONPE's sites and documents, as well as the ballot itself. Apparently FAI nominated him as their candidate, but only MNI enjoyed official recognition as a political party so he had to run under their ticket. I had a brief dispute with Soman on Peruvian national election, 2006 candidates, which is linked from the main article, and a footnote was finally included to note FAI's role. It would probably be better to include such clarification in the main election article, or even merge the whole sub-article back into the main one. I hope this makes things somewhat clearer. --Gabbec 16:27, 24 June 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Teemu
(from my talk page) I'll put the Alarcón page on my to do list, Jersey Devil, thanks for bringing that up. As for Teemu, if you see on my page there is a message from KarenAnn about his behaviour - "he targets me... I'll admit that I am intimidated", when KarenAnn has done nothing to warrant any bad feeling at all. That's the problem, such activity discourages editors and lowers the whole tone of the place. I have an rfc in waiting if such antics continue. Maybe that will stimulate Teemu to get the message to change his manner.--Zleitzen 08:13, 1 July 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Cuba
Thanks for bringing up the Auténtico which are not covered at all in Wikipedia. I'll try and persuade the legendary editor El Jigue to offload what he can (he knows more than anyone about this subject) and we'll work on a new article. Providing I can persuade the Jigue to keep a hold of his more "maverick" tendancies and stay unblocked! I've initiated an rfc on Teemu, by the way. Never a pleasant experience, but his activities do not seem to be influenced by suggestions on his talk page. See Wikipedia:Requests for comment/Teemu Ruskeepää.--Zleitzen 11:26, 3 July 2006 (UTC)

Hola Jersey Devil.
[edit] Seals and flags
Hi, how are you doing? I think that the Spanish articles for es:Escudo de Armas del Perú and the es:Escudo Nacional del Perú are correctly named, check this page from the Ministry of Defense [5]. The national flag is the one without any seal, the state flag (Pabellón Nacional) has the Escudo de Armas and the War Flag has the Escudo Nacional [6]. But yes, the state flag is used most often, even by civilians. I guess that for consistency the national flag should be used on the Peru article, but it might be OK the way it is. I know that, for example in Argentina some law was passed extending the sun flag from state flag to both state and national flag (with the sunless flag still legally an alternative national flag), but I don't know of any similar ruling in Peru. About using the war seal (on both wikipedias), including some templates, is questionable as well. Let me think a little bit more about it. --Gabbec 05:03, 4 July 2006 (UTC)
