User:Jeremy Butler
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
I've taught film and television studies in the Telecommunication and Film Department at the University of Alabama since 1980 and been a visiting professor at the University of Arizona. I've been involved with college and Public radio since 1972 and currently host "All Things Acoustic" on Alabama Public Radio.
I'm the author of Television: Critical Methods and Applications (Mahweh, NJ: Lawrence Erlbaum Associates, 2006) and the editor of Star Texts: Image and Performance in Film and Television (Detroit: Wayne State University Press, 1991).
My previous encyclopedia-writing experience was for the Encyclopedia of Television.
[edit] Disambiguation
I am not Jeremy Edward Butler (my father) or Jeremy Ian Galbraith Butler (my son). And I am not most of the Jeremy Butlers to turn up in a Google search.
[edit] Internet Projects
- ScreenSite — a resource for film/TV students and teachers
- TVCrit.com — the companion Website for the book, Television: Critical Methods and Applications
- The Internet Folk Radio List — a directory of hundreds of radio programs that feature folk, acoustic, singer-songwriter, and international music.
- I've been participating in Wikipedia since 17:36, 23 March 2005 — starting out as JButler. I didn't like that account name, because of its funky punctuation (i.e., Jbutler and jbutler don't equal JButler on Wikipedia). When I realized you could create an account name with a space in it, I switched to Jeremy Butler (27 August 2005). I'm mostly interested in articles dealing with folk music and film and television studies.

[edit] Interwiki
For Interwiki links, use shortcuts based on a prefix. E.g., the prefix Wiktionary may be used thus:
- [[Wiktionary:cinematography]] results in Wiktionary:cinematography
- [[Wiktionary:cinematography | cinematography]] results in cinematography
Here's a few other prefixes and the URL they call up:
- Google = http://www.google.com/search?q=$1
- GoogleGroups = http://groups.google.com/groups?q=$1
- WikiPedia = http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/$1
- Wiktionary = http://en.wiktionary.org/wiki/$1

[edit] Footnotes
[edit] New style, based on cite.php extension
- To make a single use footnote:
- <ref>text of note</ref> at the in-text place.
- To make a multiple use footnote:
- <ref name=foo>text of note</ref> at each in-text place.
- Alternatively <ref name=foo /> A self-closing tag on every use after name=foo has been defined.
- <ref name=foo>text of note</ref> at each in-text place.
- To add a References section to the end of the article
- <references/> under the References heading.
[edit] Old style
The basic use of the ref and note templates is just choosing a one word descriptive <name> for your reference and:
-
- put {{ref|<name>}} where you want the footnote number to be
- put a numbered list at the bottom of your document # {{note|<name>}}, for automatic numbering of your footnotes.
Use a separate note template for each reference template.
