Criticism of Death of a Preacher
Grimes was vehemently attacked during Q&A sessions following the screenings of Death of a Preacher for the film's often tawdry scenes depicting sexual situations. The film's mature nature caused alarm within the traditionally religious southeastern United States.
While many viewers found themselves uncomfortable with many of the film's depictions of sexuality, there were even stronger cries in Grimes' defense from a number of student groups at Historically Black Colleges.
