[edit] Previous work

Edwards has a degree in Public Administration from Manchester University and his previous jobs have included modeling, and being a television researchers. He also delivered burgers on roller skates in Soho and washed up at the canteen at Reading railway station for a short time. In his own words, Edwards "was a merchant banker once... walked out within a month... couldn't stand the snobbery, the wine bars, the suits and the Tube in the morning."

[edit] Big Brother

In early 2005, he came back into the UK limelight by taking part in Celebrity Big Brother. He finished in fourth place, behind Brigitte Nielsen, Kenzie from Blazin' Squad and the winner Bez.

[edit] Personal life

He was previously engaged to singer Rachel Stevens but they broke up in 2004. Edwards later said that their relationship hit the rocks after co-star Laura Sadler's death. Shortly after Sadler's untimely death, Edwards' life headed in a downward spiral and he then began having boozy nights out at local pubs, such as the Washington, which greatly displeased Stevens. The two split and reconciled before finally ending their three year relationship.

On occasion, Edwards has lashed out against excessive media attention into his personal life. On behalf of the online magazine, The Stage, Jeremy Austin conducted an insightful interview with the ex-Hollyoaks star2. During this interview, Edwards is quoted as complaining, "I used to really hate it [media attention] and always sit with my back to places and always worry that people were talking about me. You get quite paranoid and photographers are following you all the time."

Simultaneously reiterating that celebrity status is much more than a means to an end and underlining his down to earth personality, Edwards continues, "I certainly didn’t want to be famous. I have no qualms about earning money ... but I don’t want to be super-rich, I just want to have a good standard of living... that’s all anyone really wants at the end of the day isn’t it?”

That said, Edwards remains a key celebrity of the Belsize Park district, living alongside more famous residents such as Bill Oddie and Sue Cook. Unlike Belsize's more respected celebrity residents, Edwards has been seen being abused from the high-rise Chalcot estate development, while walking Mollie to Starbucks. Key quotes overheard by concerned onlookers include, "Jez, get a job!" Taking local louts's abuse as his inspiration, Coronation Street Confidential aired for the first time on ITV on February 11, 2007.

[edit] Current work and philosophy

Initial reviews have not been kind to Edwards's return to the TV screen; Coronation Street fan site, Corrie Blog3, commented, "it didn’t bode well ... the first two words I jotted down in my Rovers Return notebook were “irritating presenters”." Nonetheless, things were not all bad for the ex-Hollyoaks star. Writing in her online blog 4, co-presenter Terri Dwyer voiced her excitement at the prospect of being reunited with her screen ex-husband, claiming, "to say I’m happy to be reunited with Jeremy is an understatement".

Broadsheet newspapers are taking a renewed interest in the resurgent Edwards and his oft overlooked intellectual acumen. In a recent interview with The Independent5, Edwards voiced his concern for the state of London's strained transport network. As a solution, Edwards enlightens us, "I'd create perspex-tube bike lanes. It would be ace."

[edit] Other media coverage

Proving to us all that there's more to life than Rachel Stevens, Heat magazine informs us that "Jeremy Edwards [was spotted] gazing into his girlfriend's eyes on Valentine's night at Odette's restaurant in Primrose Hill". The identity of Edwards' mystery blonde companion remains secret.
