[edit] Synopsis
Crichton has an emotional meltdown on Moya and goes off alone in his module to cool off. Unfortunately, Moya, due to pregnancy complications, unexpectedly starbursts, stranding Crichton. He finds refuge on the nearby planet of Acquara, where he befriends a low-tech tribe living a somewhat idyllic life in a tropical area.
The daughter of the tribe's chief wants to marry Crichton, while an ambitious young man who wants to marry her becomes jealous. Crichton is uninterested in these machinations and is stymied from leaving by an odd draining of all power from his module. Meanwhile, the Moyans have been spending the last three months trying to find Crichton, and are happy to finally find him. As Rygel and D'Argo go down in a shuttle to greet him, however, they experience the same power drainage Crichton did, and find that Crichton is not interested in going back with them, as he believes that they deliberately abandoned him three months earlier. He and D'Argo make up and reach a new level of friendship after D'Argo explains the trials they endured in an effort on his behalf.
Then they stumble into trouble when Crichton's nemesis accuses him and D'Argo of an unprovoked attack, the penalty for which could be death. When things look dark, Rygel is abruptly mistaken for an Acquaran religious savior, who "by his hand will rise up and lead them to the light." Rygel realizes the Acquarans are actually colonists from the Hynerian empire, sent to the planet by his own kinsman, Rygel X.
While Zhaan and Aeryn attempt to find the source of the planet's power drain and get them off the planet, Crichton and D'Argo must somehow protect Rygel from the dogma surrounding his supposed role. Ultimately they discover that Rygel is the fulfiller of the prophecy, Rygel explains to his subjects the true story, and all is well.
[edit] Guest stars
- Kevin Copeland as Rokon
- Denni Gordon as Priestain Neera
- Natalie Jackson Mendoza as Lishala
- John O'Brienas Kato-Re
- Tania Yuki as Maid
[edit] Notes
- John snaps out in anger, revealing the strains of his separation from earth.
- The Moyans care enough for John that they spend three months looking for him.
- Evidently this episode is regarded by the show's creators as one of their worst—the DVD commentary is subtitled "When Bad Episodes Happen to Good Shows," and features Claudia Black, Ben Browder, Rockne O'Bannon and David Kemper trashing the episode.
- Was supposed to be played more humorously than it ended up being.
- Claudia Black's nickname for Ben Browder is "The Bondi Yeti" due to him being frequently found surfing on Bondi Beach, and his hairiness, which is on display in this episode.
[edit] Quotes
- Zhaan: What we need to do is isolate the most highly developed organisms.
- Aeryn: Well, that rules out the three we're looking for.
- D'Argo: My hearts are private places. Stay out of them.
