Jennie Tuttle Hobart

Jennie Tuttle Hobart (1849 – January 8, 1941) was Second Lady of the United States from 1897 to 1899 being the wife of Vice President of the United States Garret Hobart.
Born and raised in Paterson, New Jersey, the daughter of a prominent attorney, she married her husband, Garret Augustus Hobart, in 1869 at the start of his career as a lawyer and politician. In 1896, her husband was elected Vice President of the United States and the family moved to Washington, D.C.. As Second Lady of the United States, Hobart often served as First Lady in the White House because President William McKinley's wife, Ida Saxton McKinley, suffered from epilepsy. Garret died of a heart failure on November 21, 1899 leaving Jennie widowed. She died on January 8, 1941.
