Jehning Family Lock Museum
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The Jehning Family Lock Museum is a small museum of locks and keys, located in Mountain View, California.
Although small, the museum is one of relatively few in the world to specialise in locks and keys. It is housed in a locksmith's shop, also called Jehning's, in the historic Ames Building on the main shopping street of the city, Castro Street. It first opened in 2005. As of 2006, it is normally open on Wednesdays (noon to 5 p.m.), Thursdays (6 p.m. to 8 p.m.), and Sundays (10 a.m. to 3 p.m). The basis of the collection was antique stock that had built up over the years since a locksmiths' shop had been located in Mountain View, but it has since been added to by the proprietors in a deliberate attempt to build up a collection that would illustrate the importance of locks in economic and social history.
The Jehning museum is a member of the California Association of Museums.
