This image appears to have come from the stock.xchng website. Although many uploaders to stock.xchng wish their work to be effectively public domain, many others believe their work is only available under terms similar to the by-nc or sampling+ licenses. The stock xchng boilerplace license included with every image contains terms which are unacceptable on Wikipedia. |
|
Contact the copyright holder of this image and determine the actual copyright status of this work. Add {{contact|~~~~}} above the sxc-warning to prevent the copyright holder from being flooded with requests. It is preferred that you have them email their reply to a boilerplate request for permission to permissions@wikimedia.org. Alternatively you can include their reply on the image talk page. It would also be beneficial to invite them to contribute other artwork to Wikipedia. The reply must explicitly indicate that derivative works, and wholesale redistribution of the work for any purpose, commercial or otherwise is permitted to anyone. Once a clear grant under a free license is available, please move this image to Commons with the appropraite new licence.

[edit] Permission requested
An attempt is being made by — Jeff G. 22:26, 18 March 2007 (UTC) to contact the copyright holder of this media. Please do not begin a new attempt without discussing it with the previous contacting user. |
I requested permission as follows:
Dear Kelly Cline,
I am writing to confirm whether permission is granted to use image of Pecorino Romano cheese #44729 that you uploaded to stock.xchng as http://www.sxc.hu/browse.phtml?f=view&id=135327 (but which doesn't seem to exist there any more) under the terms of the GNU Free Documentation License (GFDL) ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/GFDL ). A user with the username Mirv has pasted in that image to Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia. The original submission can be viewed at http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Image:Pecorino-romano.jpg&oldid=6520084 .
This user claims on page that "This file has been released into the public domain by the copyright holder, its copyright has expired, or it is ineligible for copyright. This applies worldwide", but for the page to remain on our site, we need further evidence that this is the case. Please be assured that if you do not grant permission, your content will not be used at Wikipedia; we have a strict policy against copyright violations.
You can read the GNU Free Document License in full at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Text_of_the_GFDL . (To keep things simple, we do not use Invariant Sections, Front-Cover Texts, or Back-Cover Texts.) The license stipulates that any copy of the material, even if modified, must carry the same license. This means that anyone would be licensed to distribute the material, possibly for a fee (we would distribute your work free of charge). Under the license, no distributor (commercial or otherwise) can restrict future distribution, so your work would never become proprietary. In addition, the license does not grant the right to imply your endorsement of a modified version.
Please note that your contributions may not remain intact as submitted; this license and the collaborative nature of our project entitles others to edit, alter, and update content at will, i.e., to keep up with new information, or suit the text to a different purpose. There is more information on our copyright policy at: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Copyrights .
The article will be deleted in seven days time if permission is not confirmed, though it can be restored at a later date if you choose to respond later to state that such use is allowed.
Thank you for your time. I look forward to your response.
Yours faithfully,
Jeff G.

Hello Jeff,
No, I never did give my permission for tha timage to be used in that fashion. I have never released any copyrights on that image, or any of my images, and still own the copyright to that image. I can assure you that the copyright is not expired, nor is it ineligible for copyright.
I am a professional photographer and that image is available for Royalty Free purchase through my agent exclusively.
I have not been an SXC member for a few years, I have removed all of my photographs that I once had available there nearly 3 years ago due to the fact that the licensing structure was damaging to my professional portfolio.
While I had my images on SXC they were ALWAYS under copyright with the requirement of permission for useage. I was NEVER asked permission for this image to be used in this way.
Again, I never granted permission for this image to be used in this manner, and especially not okay for a full resolution version of it to be available freely on the web.
I'd appreciate it if it were removed, and I thank you for taking the time to contact me directly.
Warmest Regards, Kelly Cline
