The man on the left in the Jeff Wall photo referenced is probably supposed to represent a working class person, not "middle class". Note the uniform-like clothiing. The biggest indicator is button-flap pockets.

The man in the middle, making the gesture, is using the middle finger of his hand -- the "bird" -- "Screw you." The extent to which he is "slanting" his one eye is a matter of debate. Is the man on the left Asian, or native (northwest) North American?

Jeff Wall's work reminds me of that old actor's line: "Sincerity. Once you learn to fake that you've got it made!" In Jeff Wall's case it's "Reality. Once you learn to fake that you've got it made!"

[edit] education

I didnt read the article too thoughly, but I don't think education was covered.

There are numerous factual errors in this new version of the biography. Most blatant: the claim that Wall currently teaches at UBC. Not true, as a brief look at the UBC Fine Art Department website will indicate.
