Jefferson de Oliveira Galvão

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Jefferson de Oliveira Galvão is a goalkeeper currently playing for Turkish club Trabzonspor. Born January 2, 1983 in São Vicente, Brazil, Jefferson stands at 1.87 m and weighs 82 kg. He was brought in as a replacement for Australian goalkeeper Michael Petkovic. He has previously played in Brazil for Cruzeiro and Botafago. He has also played for the U-21 Brazilian national team. In his early years he was coached by former Spanish goalkeer Antonio Bentue, who started his career as a football player but ended up becoming a theologian.

During his season in Cruzeiro, Jefferson de Oliverira Galvao established his supremacy as a goalkeeper over his Chilean rival Matias "Tiramisu" Cordero. "Tiramisu" had been one of Cruzeiro's major acquisitions due to his outstanding record while playing in the Chilean national league, but Jefferson quickly demonstrated that he was no substitute when he was able to block 3 penalty kicks in a game against Flamengo, a few weeks after "Tiramisu" had been joined Cruzeiro. The ensuing polemic between both goalkeepers became locally known as the Jefferson/Tiramisu affair.
