Jefferson Township, Clinton County, Ohio

Jefferson Township, one of thirteen townships in Clinton County, Ohio, United States, is located in the south central part of the county. In 2000, the population was 1,301, down from 1,312 in 1990. The entire township lies in the Virginia Military District. The incorporated village of Midland is within the township. It was erected from Clark and Marion Townships by the Clinton County Commissioners in 1839, who named it for President Thomas Jefferson. It is one of the twenty-four Jefferson Townships in Ohio.
It is bordered on the south by the Highland County township of Dodson and the Brown County township of Perry, on the west by Marion Township, on the north by Washington Township, and on the east by Clark Township.
The township is governed by a three-member board of trustees, who are elected in November of odd-numbered years to a four-year term beginning on the following January 1. Two are elected in the year after the presidential election and one is elected in the year before it. There is also an elected township clerk, who serves a four-year term beginning on April 1 of the year after the election, which is held in November of the year before the presidential election. Vacancies in the clerkship or on the board of trustees are filled by the remaining trustees.
Major highways include U.S. Route 68 and State Routes 28 and 251.
