Jefferson Square
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Jefferson Square, an office complex in downtown Columbia, South Carolina, is the headquarters of the state's Department of Health and Human Services, which oversees the Medicaid program for South Carolinians.
Located at 1801 Main St., the site of the former historic Jefferson Hotel and Jefferson Square Theater, the complex includes a 12-story, 150,000 sq. ft. office tower, a two-story courtyard plaza, and the popular Cavanaugh's Deli.
Also on the Jefferson Square block (bordered by Laurel, Assembly, Richland, and Main) are the offices of Wilson-Kibler real estate, two parking garages, a parking lot, and the historical Arsenal Hill Associate Reformed Presbyterian Church.
In October 2006, Jefferson Square was removed only one degree from Kevin Bacon when scenes from the movie Death Sentence were filmed here, including a climactic shot of a car going over the edge of a parking garage roof.
