Jeff Richards (baseball player/actor)
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Jeff Richards, born Richard Mansfield Taylor , (November 1, 1924 in Portland, Oregon, United States - d. July 28, 1989) was a professional minor-league American baseball player with the Portland Beavers before becoming an actor. He was sometimes credited as Dick Taylor and Richard Taylor.
He is best known for his role as Benjamin Pontipee in Seven Brides for Seven Brothers (1954), for which he won a Golden Globe award.
Often cast for his "beefcake" appeal, Richards took off his shirt to notable effect in a scene in 1955's It's a Dog's Life and again for several scenes in 1959's Island of Lost Women. Unlike several other actors of the time, such as William Holden, Richards did not shave off his chest hair for these appearances.
