[edit] Orphaned fair use image (Image:EPO-logo-45.gif)

Warning sign This file may be deleted.

Thanks for uploading Image:EPO-logo-45.gif. I notice the 'image' page currently specifies that the image can be used under a fair use license. However, the image is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any fair use images not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. --Durin 22:29, 25 July 2006 (UTC)

Does WP:O appy to images as well as articles? If so a lot of images qualify, esp. those used in userboxes (and user pages). In any case, doesn't use of an image in a userbox (or user page) constitute fair use. JediInventor 23:02, 25 July 2006 (UTC)
  • No, it doesn't direclt apply. But, fair use images not connected to an article can be deleted after a seven day period following tagging of the image and notification of the uploader, as I've done here with you. What does apply is Wikipedia:Fair use criteria item #9 with regards to fair use tagged images in userboxes. In short, it's not allowed, either on userboxes or on userpages, or any non-main namespace page. Does that clarify? Ask away if it doesn't... --Durin 01:00, 26 July 2006 (UTC)
Clear enough, and that makes sense (item #9 certainly applies here). I'm not sure whether I have the right license for the image in question (it may in fact be public domain), but until I sort that out, it should clearly be removed. Alternatively, I could use it in the EPO article, unless that would be considered contrived. JediInventor 02:33, 26 July 2006 (UTC)
