Jedah Dohma is a video game character from Capcom's Darkstalkers series of fighting games. He is a dark messiah with some grim reaper similarities. He has a unique appearance of a thick body suit that shows his muscular body. His hair is not shown completely, hidden by a headdress that has a bat-like appearance and he has long and retractable finger nails. He has wings that have a metallic appearance. His whole body is made of liquid, from which he can assume any shape he chooses at will. All of Jedah's moves are unusually gory, using his blood to attack enemies. He can even decapitate himself or mutilate any of his body parts without hurting himself at all, because of his liquid attribute.

He is also able to absorb the souls of others from which he can instantly increase his own powers.

[edit] Story

Though he is over 6000 years old, Jedah is the youngest out of the three High Nobles of Makai.

Jedah was always distressed about the future of Makai (Japanese for "demon world"). He believed that if Makai was left under Belial's rule, the master of the Aensland family and the true ruler of Makai, then it would grow old and begin to decay. Belial would most likely say that such is destiny and life. Jedah considered Belial to be an abomination, and actively sought out the opportunity to kill him, waiting for the right time to strike.

After the death of Garunan, the master of the Bosital family and the oldest of the three high nobles, Jedah had a young confidant named Ozomu. Simply put, he was a gourmet. The reason he came under Jedah was to be able to eat delicious souls. As a noble, his skills were second class, but his ability to deceive others were first class. He was a genius in using others. He advised Jedah about using the gate of Makai. Jedah, being confident in his ability to absorb souls, agreed to this. He ordered Ozomu to break a part of the seal to open the gate more.

When Ozomu arrived at the gates, he realized that enormous powers lay within the gates. He realized that even Jedah would destroy himself if he absorbed all this power at once and sees this as his chance to take over the throne. He lies to Jedah and tells him that he must destroy all the seals because little power was coming out. After destroying the seals, he ran off to the far reaches of Makai. The destruction of Jedah meant his rise in power and his plot succeeded. Though Jedah's absorbing powers were greater than Ozomu predicted, he was still destroyed due to the sheer amount of power seeping through.

Ozomu gathered the left over power and stored it in Dohma Castle. This is how Ozomu became the new master of the Dohma family. The birth of Emperor Ozomu.

100 years later, after a century-long sleep, Jedah was revived in Makai. He felt distressed towards the crazed Makai, nobles fighting each other and spilling blood. Instead of anger, he felt pity towards Ozomu, who had betrayed him. Jedah had already made up his mind. His complete revival and the cleansing of all souls. For this, a new stage was necessary. A new dimension, the Majigen.

Jedah arrived at Dohma Castle and saw Ozomu and laid out his hand. Although his powers were not yet completely restored yet, he had enough powers to remove Ozomu. Ozomu had become a spineless gourmet. Ozomu's eyes had fear in them. Jedah quietly whispers, "Ozomu... I am sorry, but please lend me your powers. Your soul would become the foundation of Majigen and will help the future of Makai."

The Dohma Castle was taken into the dark space along with Ozomu. This was the beginning of Ozomu's salvation. Jedah believed that he was the one that needed to recreate life by fusing all souls into one life form, the Shintai. To do this, he summoned all those with worthy souls to enter into his newly created realm.

[edit] Personality

Jedah is very cool, collected and confident. He has a degree of arrogance, but as a whole, he is focused and patient, all for achieving his goal of saving Makai from a destiny seen by Belial.

It is rare to see Jedah express emotion, except in fits of insanity. But even these are subdued by his own calm attitude eventually.

[edit] Gameplay

Jedah has a unique and completely different gameplay that sets him apart from the rest. None of his basic crouching attacks knock down, however, but this is seen as an advantage to prevent the enemy from strategizing while he/she gets up. His medium punch attacks comprises his extending fingernails, which has considerable reach. His aerial dash also is considered an attack and can hit enemies in the air.

His projectiles are scythes, which stays in one place. He spawns these by ripping it from his own wings. His main attacks are either attacking enemies by spinning like a scythe, or grabbing enemies and impaling them on the ground with his wings. He can change some of his attacks in the middle of execution or animation sequence.

Jedah also has a move called the San Bassale , immortalized by inflation fetishists. This command throw deals a lot of damage, and Jedah players will use it if the opportunity comes. All characters have a special victim animation of this move, especially when done to Lilith, when it inflates her breasts so large they explode.

Jedah is best played to confuse and trick enemies, but as long as he doesn't use predictable patterns, he can excel and dominate, no matter who he faces. His deviation from standard characters helps a lot, and mastery of his gameplay truly brings out the best of him. Moreover, despite vast difference in gameplay, Jedah is easy to pick up in terms of gameplay, though it takes some accustomization to be able to play as him effectively.

[edit] Trivia

Jedah's ending sequence in Capcom Fighting Evolution
Jedah's ending sequence in Capcom Fighting Evolution
  • In his ending in Capcom Fighting Evolution, Dante makes a cameo appearance.
  • Jedah has some sort of rivalry with Donovan, as explained in the PlayStation version of Darkstalkers 3. However, it is Anita that concerns Jedah. Jedah is implying, in his ending, that Anita is the ruler of humans that has yet to awaken, in the words "I'll have to destroy the other world, the human world, before their leader, before she fully awakens." She is among the greatest threats to his plans to save Makai.
  • Jedah was supposed to be the son of Belial (which would also make him Morrigan's brother), wear all white, and be called Belial Jr. He was also supposed to have a cape made of light, and be much more of a 'prettyboy'.
  • Jedah's inspiration is hard to grasp, although many state and it is also easy to see that Jedah appears very similar to Devilman, the legendary manga superhero.
  • All of Jedah's normal and special moves have Italian names, such as the Ira Spinta (Fury Push), Nero Fatica (Black Effort), Prova di Servo (Servant's Proof) and Santuario (Sanctuary). This may provide a clue to the inspiration for his design, but no decisive conclusions have yet been drawn.
  • Although he has appeared in promotional art and on the covers of Darkstalkers the comic series by Udon, he has yet to be seen inside of them. Other characters, like Queen Bee, have the same condition.
  • It's highly speculated he defeated and subsequently killed Demitri Maximoff due to the last audio track on the Vampire Savior disk, but in turn, was also thought to have been killed by Donovan Baine.
