Talk:Jeanette Washington
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
I have no idea who Ms. Washington is, but I thought I'd suggest some possible sources. I'm unsure as to whether there are two "Baby Washingtons" or not, but I'm sure someone can shine light on the issue.
Perhaps the following will help (you may have to search for the content):

- The 2nd link is interesting. I split the article into two parts for Justine Baby Washington and Jeanette Washington, but the article seems to claim they are one and the same. Information behind it is quite hard to find. Will prob. do a bit more research and see what I can dig up. But if this is the case then will prob. re-merge. - Master Of Ninja 10:36, 18 October 2005 (UTC)

- I think I have cleared this up a little. According to sources, Justine Washington sometimes recorded under the name "Jeanette Washington". Adding to the confusion is that Justine also performed in a group called the Jaynetts. Justine is the one nicknamed "Baby" and the soul singer; Jeanette was the funk singer in Parlet and the P-Funk groups. Does that make sense? I hope so! Took me a while to figure all that out... - The 2nd link (http://www.duke.edu/~tmc/motherpage/discog-pre.html) actually has a part which says they are the same person really. Most of the web info is vague about this. What really is needed is someone to have a copy of that Billboard book, or have a more definitve (library) account which can be referenced. I actually split the article thinking what you are saying is the case, but nobody has more definitve information on the Washington that was in Parlet. - Master Of Ninja 15:44, 19 October 2005 (UTC)

This entry featured in an article on online news site The Register which discussed the low quality of many Wikipedia entries.
- That's why this is receiving attention. Jokestress 17:54, 19 October 2005 (UTC)

- Ya, I tend to ignore the Register. They really have nothing constructive to contribute to our project. But hey, if they want to point out errors we're more than happy to fix the errors. Once we get in a frozen version of good articles I'm sure their tune will change. If not, oh well. Others will do the same as myself and happily ignore them :-) Ta bu shi da yu 14:07, 23 October 2005 (UTC)
- The guy who wrote the Register article has confused this article with the article on Baby Washington. Also, I'd like to point out that the Encyclopedia Brittanica does not have an article about Baby Washington or Jeannette Washington. (But if they did, it would be well written, I'll bet!) - Actually I actually looked through the articles, tidied a wee bit and split them after seeing the reg article - they were partially right it was badly written. Confusing the issue is that justine (baby) and jeanette washington could be the same person. Online sources are a bit unsure about this, and the other articles talk page has someone claiming that their billboard book or something claims that thye are the same. It will need some digging up to figure this one out. - Master Of Ninja 21:46, 25 October 2005 (UTC)

- OK, archivist Pete Hoppula wrote back with a published article in Soul Survivor confirming the two singers are different women. The Jeanette/Jeannete issue discussed below has yet to be resolved definitively. Jokestress
