Jon studied physics at the University of Cambridge for four years before defecting to the amorphous materials group in the department of chemistry to do a PhD on the Structural Properties of Amorphous Materials.

Jon has since cofounded Flying Frog Consultancy Ltd., written the book Objective CAML for Scientists, published software for wavelet-based time-frequency analysis using Mathematica (here), written the technical presentation software Presenta and contributed to many Wikipedia articles.

Jon is a keen OCaml programmer.
