[edit] Johannes C. Ernharth

Currently a resident of Pittsburgh, PA, Johannes Ernharth was Born in 1968 in West Point, New York, the third child of father, Ronald L. Ernharth, a U.S. Military Academy graduate, and mother, Margot Ernharth, originally from the Rheinland-Pfalz area of Western Germany.

A graduate of Middlebury College in 1991 (B.A. History), he entered the financial services field soon thereafter, joining his fathers insurance and benefit consulting business, Ernharth & Associates, Inc., along with his older brother, Stephan R. Ernharth. In 1994, Johannes and Stephan started Citadel Resource Consulting, Inc., a Registered Investment Advisory firm, and in 1997, Ernharth Group, a broad-based financial services firm for individuals with an entrepreneurial mindset. By 1998 these firms had over $100 million in assets under management between private money and corporate retirement plans. In 1999, CRC’s assets were consolidated and managed through National Financial Partners (NFP) with whom Ernharth Group had affiliated, a relationship that lasted through 2005 when Ernharth moved on to National Planning Corporation (NPC). As of late 2006, Johannes serves as the Chief Investment Strategist for Ernharth Group, which specializes in bringing alternative asset management strategies common to the affluent market downstream to the retail client level. Ernharth Group brands itself with the phrase “Don’t be a Fall Guy.”

In 1995 Johannes was married to Libby (Culbertson) Ernharth, and in July of 1996 he and Libby left for a seven month stint in the Peace Corps, Africa, where they were posted in Masaka, Uganda, as small business development advisors. Upon their return, Johannes returned to his career in the financial services.

Following his Peace Corps experience, Johannes political inclinations grew active as he began volunteering with the Libertarian Party of Pittsburgh, eventually serving in various officer positions, including two terms as Chair of the party. Concurrently, since the mid 1990s, Johannes has been an avid student of the Austrian School of Economics and libertarian theory, both which directly influence his economic and investment outlook. Johannes’ active political involvement ended in 2002 with the birth of his first son, Oskar, who has since been followed by sons William and Christopher.

For a number of years, Johannes served as the editor of Ernharth Group’s well received Wealth Management Report. In 2005, the publication was ended and in its place was created VigilantInvestor.com (originally called Ernharth Perspective), a daily journal publication designed to help those searching for answers break through the mainstream media noise that supports the conventional economic and bullish sentiment common to Wall Street. Johannes serves as the chief contributor and editor. In late 2006, Vigilant Investor expanded its media offerings to include the live Vigilant Investor weekly radio streamcast and recorded podcast, and most recently, Vigilant Investor TV. While relatively new, Johannes, as host, has interviewed well known commentators and guests such as G. Edward Griffin (author of the wildly popular Federal Reserve critique, The Creature from Jekyll Island), John Williams (of Shadow Government Stats), and Doug Wakefield.

Johannes' unique perspective puts him in increasing demand as a speaker and radio guest on various economic and investment subjects.

Johannes is also an experienced guitarist and vocalist, and has performed both as a solo artist and with others, playing in ensembles ranging from acoustic duos, to bluegrass, to rock n’ roll.
