[edit] Jay Garner getting replaced by Paul Bremer

I always understood that Garner was a military guy, who was going to work with military leaders and continue the heavy fighting and peace-keeping mission. Paul Bremer was the statesman who was going to work with the civilians, write a constitution, and transition to democracy. In other words, they moved Garner in to rule with an iron fist and get the job done, no matter what. Bremer shows up when there is enough stability to begin the transition. I understood that the transition was a signal that things went better than planned. Remember, right after the "Mission Accomplished" banner, things were relatively quiet over there, except for the looting. I think it's a bit unfair that there is so much cricism about Garner's replacement. Shouldn't we just say, "Garner was replaced"? We can mention the scandals, but let's focus on the good things he's done as well. Jgardner 07:53, 2004 Oct 15 (UTC)

The criticism of the choice of Garner needs to be explained and the critics identified for this section to be considered verifiable. patsw 17:17, 20 January 2006 (UTC)
