Jay Diamond

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Jay Diamond is a left-wing talk radio personality who began his career as a left-of-center talk show host and then initially moved to the right. Diamond started his career as a protégé of right-wing talk show host Bob Grant in the New York City market on WABC radio, a talk station. Diamond's politics began shifting leftward sometime in the late 1990s, as he went from conventional conservative to "paleo-conservative" (in the Pat Buchanan mold) before becoming dissastisfied with the pro-big business, pro-wealthy corporate conservatism of the 1990s and 2000s.

He last broadcast was in Boston, and as recently as August 2005 his "Jay Diamond Show" appeared on WRKO. Previously he broadcast for several years in New York City. He was on WABC, WEVD, then WOR, mainly as a right-wing personality [1]; in his last years in New York he moved sharply to the left in his politics. Jay was heard on 92.3 Free FM WFNY-FM the week of January 30th as an evening guest show host. He also appeared as a fill in on The Alan Colmes Show on March 28, 2007.

He is an expert voice impressionist and has had short plays on-air which he said were performed by "The Mighty Diamond Art Players." [2] [3] [4] The cerebral Diamond is noted for his resplendent use of the English language and a sharp wit.

Left-wing media watchdog organization FAIR recognized Diamond as unusual among broadcasters for his calling attention to Trent Lott's and Bob Barr's associations with the right-wing Council of Conservative Citizens (CCC), during December, 1998. [5]
