Jay Davis

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Jay Davis is a stand-up comedian, who garnered nationwide attention after appearing in Dane Cook's Tourgasm, a 30-day cross country tour which also included Cook, Gary Gulman, and Robert Kelly, and was given a 9-episode run on HBO.

He began doing stand-up at an early age, and went to Los Angeles to pursue a career in entertainment. After some film and television roles, he began doing a regular stand-up routine at an Irish pub, that first brought him to the attention of Dane Cook. When the pub closed, Davis toured solo for a while, before the 2005 Tourgasm tour. On the tour, he was labeled as "the nice guy".

On the TV show, Davis became the subject of much ridicule and harassment from both the comedians and viewers. The other comedians on tour, particularly Kelly, constantly yelled at him, while Cook and Gulman would also make criticisms of him behind his back (although Cook would often make attempts to help him). The show also documented some of Davis' jokes failing with audiences (the TLC killer joke, in particular). On discussion boards around the internet, Davis was frequently scorned for his routine and his behavior on the bus, with one specifically criticized event being Davis crying after being called a foul name by Kelly on the second day of the tour.
