Ed, Edd n Eddy: Jawbreakers
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Jawbreakers is a video game released on March 30, 2003 by Bam Entertainment, based on the popular television cartoon Ed, Edd 'n' Eddy for the Game Boy Advance. Developed by Crawfish Interactive and The Climax Group, it received an ESRB rating of "E — Everyone."The game will mirror Ed, Edd and Eddy's television quest to make money to buy delicious jawbreakers.
[edit] The plot
The object of the game is to help these resourceful preadolescents win a contest whose grand prize is, of course, a lifetime supply of jawbreakers! Throughout the game, Ed, Edd and Eddy will tap into their unique brand of resourcefulness as they earn money, solve physical puzzles, interact with their pals from the cul-de-sac and find hidden goodies. The players will control one Ed at a time, each with his own unique strength and weakness, and may dynamically cycle through the three main characters. Players will explore 12 levels, each offering a short animated cut-scene at the beginning and end. The Eds are the playable characters, each with their own skills and abilities. Ed can headbut things, Edd (Double-D) can use a slingshot, a rench and use switches that do different things. Eddy can use the hypnotizing wheel or the jetpack.
[edit] Levels
Level Location | Characters Seen (not including the Eds) | ||
---|---|---|---|
The Cul-De-Sac | Jimmy: A childish aspiring artist, Jimmy likes spending most of his time with Sarah. Jimmy is quite accident-prone, and possibly the weakest kid in the cul-de-sac. He can be quite crafty when motivated, and twice has made scams that are very successful. Jimmy has shown how deeply attached he is to Sarah when someone tries to take her away from him. He also wears a retainer because of one of Eddy's previous scams which involved a bowling pin, ruining his teeth.
He makes his appearance in the first cut-scene of the game, explaining to the Eds of the raffle-contest involving a box of 'ultimate' Jawbreakers that lasts forever. At the game's ending, the Eds had collected all of the Cul-de-sac kid's tickets. Ironically the only one who didn't give up his ticket, Jimmy, won the Jawbreakers ultimately. |
||
The Playground | Rolf: Rolf comes from a curious European culture with odd customs, and has a thick accent to match. It is purposely never stated which country he's from. He works his parent's small farm within the cul-de-sac, and also leads a scouting group called the Urban Rangers, which includes Jimmy and Jonny. Rolf usually refers to himself in third person, as well as being the son of a shepherd, which he takes pride in. His faithful farm animals are a pig named Wilfred, a goat named Victor, chickens, and a cow. He mostly hangs out with Kevin, playing various sports. He hardly minds the Eds, unless they make a fool out of him, after which he is not afraid to use brute force.
Rolf is the first boss of the game, whom Edd (being forced by Eddy) must fight. Rolf agrees to part with his ticket if Edd wins the duel. He fights by throwing eggs, which must be dodged. He can only be damaged by use of the slingshot. |
||
The Woods | Nazz: The trendy, attractive girl of the cul-de-sac, Nazz mostly hangs out with Kevin and does not mind the Eds unless they annoy her. All of the boys except Rolf and Jimmy have a crush on her. Whenever she approaches, the Eds lose the ability to speak coherently. She is the head cheerleader at Peach Creek Junior High. Although Nazz is usually depicted as sweet and smart, she can occasionally be a bit ditzy (which can be typically described as a dumb blonde).
After Nazz explains that she has lost her black book in the woods, the Eds agree to find it for her. Nazz is not a boss. Ed must guide her over to himself to give back the book. She moves which ever direction Ed moves, making the challeneg somewhat difficult. |
||
Construction Site | Sarah: Sarah is Ed's spoiled little sister, who acts cute and charming only when it serves her. Sarah has Ed's unending loyalty and obedience, mostly from threats of her snitching on him. She is almost always playing with Jimmy, and when she's not, she rushes to his aid the moment Jimmy calls her. It has been hinted in several episodes that she has a crush on Edd.
She encounters the Eds in the Construction Site, threatening to tell her mom that they've been taking everyone's raffle tickets. She serves as the third boss battle in the game, though she can not actually be damaged. Instead, she stomps her feet, causing screwdrivers to rain down. All three Eds take part in the battle, having to avoid the falling tools until time runs out. |
Johnny: A typical nuisance, Jonny has a large head, talks a lot, and frequently gets on the other kids' nerves. He doesn't seem to mind the antics of the Eds and sometimes seems to enjoy them. Jonny is innocent and gullible, and forgives people no matter what they do. He is rarely seen without his best friend, a board with drawn-on eyes and a mouth, appropriately named Plank.
He meets the Eds at the Construction Site, having lost Plank after playing hide and seek. The Eds agree to help find Plank, in exchange for a raffle ticket. |
Plank: Johnny's best friend, a wooden board. Has eyes and a mouth, drawn with crayon. Johnny is almost never seen without him, and vice versa. Plank has been known to move on his own, off-screen of course.
Plank, while playing hide and seek with Johnny, is lost in the Construction Site. Eddy volunteers to help find him, in exchange for a raffle ticket. After the following levels, Plank is found safely and returned to Johnny. |
The Junkyard | Kevin: The jock on the block, Kevin hates the Eds, especially Eddy, and usually calls them "dorks" quite often. Kevin is a bully, and has shown to be extremely cruel at various times. Kevin had a garage full of jawbreakers, as his father works at a jawbreaker factory, and loves customizing his bike, skateboards, and snowboards. When not riding his trusty bike, he usually hangs out with Rolf and Nazz in the lane. He is a gym assistant at Peach Creek Junior High and enjoys playing football.
The Eds encounter a suspicious Kevin at the Junkyard, after having rebuilt the Hypnodisk-Hat. Scared, Ed and Edd run off, leaving Eddy to fight alone. Kevin serves as the fourth boss fight, though like Sarah, he can't be damaged. Instead, he kicks up rocks with his bike, which Eddy must dodge until the allotted time runs out. |
||
The Trailer Park | The Kankers: If there's one thing the Eds and the cul-de-sac kids can agree on, it is that they all hate the Kanker sisters. May, Marie, and Lee are sisters that live in a nearby trailer park. The Kankers are the cul-de-sac's number one enemy and they are feared by all the other kids for their brash and uninhibited demeanor. While all the Kankers like the Eds, it has been shown that May has a preference for Ed, Marie for Edd, and Lee for Eddy.
After the Junkyard levels, The Kankers kidnap Edd (who is not a part of the trio from this point on until rescued). The two remaining Eds pursue the Kankers into the Trailer Park, eventually reaching them and initiating the fifth and final boss battle (again, they cannot be damaged, except for Lee). The objective is to retrieve Ed's helmet power-up, knock down the wall in front of them, and pick up Eddy and Edd in the wagon, escaping in the process. |
[edit] Trivia
- The game was not received well among the critics who reviewed it. The game, as IGN states, has no tutorial and thrusts the player into the action horribly. Other complaints include no inidication of how long or short a level is, coupled with the time-limit on each level. IGN also says that the timing for the game was bad, as the game it's 'blueprints' are based off of The Lost Vikings which was shipped as a Gameboy Advance conversion only a week earlier before Jawbreakers!'s release.
