Javier Alejandro Villarreal is an Argentine football midfielder. He was born on March 1, 1979, in the city of Alta Gracia in the Córdoba Province of Argentina. He currently plays for Club Atlético Banfield of the Primera Division Argentina.

Villarreal started his career at Talleres de Córdoba in the Argentine 2nd division in 1996, in 1998 the club were promoted to the Primera. In 1999 he was sold to local rivals Belgrano de Córdoba.

In 2000 he played for Córdoba CF in Spain, but the move did not work out and he returned to Argentina to play for Boca Juniors. It was with Boca that he has had the most success in his career to date, he won 4 titles with the club, including 2 Copa Libertadores. In 2004 he joined Grasshoppers but again his time in European football was brief, he returned to Argentina to play for Colón de Santa Fe and then Racing Club.

In 2006 he joined Libertad of Paraguay where he was part of the squad that won the Liga Paraguaya: Primera División. At the end of 2006 he joined Banfield and will make his debut for the club in 2007.
