[edit] Jason Tom

A tag has been placed on Jason Tom, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done because the article seems to be about a person, group of people, band, club, company, or web content, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is notable, that is, why an article about that subject should be included in Wikipedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, articles that do not assert notability may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable, and if you can indicate why the subject of this article is notable, you may contest the tagging. To do this, add {{hangon}} on the top of the page (below the existing db tag) and leave a note on the article's talk page explaining your position. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the article that would confirm its subject's notability under the guidelines.

For guidelines on specific types of articles, you may want to check out our criteria for biographies, for web sites, for bands, or for companies. Feel free to leave a note on my talk page if you have any questions about this. — Matt Eason (TalkContribs) 11:58, 28 January 2007 (UTC)

Please do not remove speedy deletion tags from articles. If you do not believe the article deserves to be deleted, then please do the following:
  1. Place {{hangon}} on the page. Please do not remove any existing speedy deletion tag(s).
  2. Make your case on the article's talk page.

Administrators will look at your reasoning before deciding what to do with the article. Thank you. — Matt Eason (TalkContribs) 14:43, 28 January 2007 (UTC)

[edit] AfD nomination of Jason Tom

I've nominated Jason Tom, an article you created, for deletion. We appreciate your contributions, but in this particular case I do not feel that Jason Tom satisfies Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion; I have explained why in the nomination space (see also "What Wikipedia is not" and the Wikipedia deletion policy). Your opinions on the matter are welcome; please participate in the discussion by adding your comments at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Jason Tom and please be sure to sign your comments with four tildes (~~~~). You are free to edit the content of Jason Tom during the discussion but should not remove the articles for deletion template from the top of the article; such removal will not end the deletion discussion. Thank you. —Wknight94 (talk) 12:22, 30 January 2007 (UTC)

  • Alright that's cool with me if you wish to discuss about it. Jasontom 01:27, 31 January 2007 (UTC)

Please do not remove Article for Deletion templates as you did from Jason Tom. This is considered vandalism. janejellyroll 06:38, 31 January 2007 (UTC)

  • Hello again Jane Jelly Roll,

I did not remove any Article for Deletion templates, so I am unaware of what you are talking about. There is no activity of vandalism going on here whatsoever. BTW have a great day! Jasontom

This diff [1] shows that one of your edits did remove the AfD template. It probably wasn't your intention to remove it, I just wanted to make sure you were aware. janejellyroll 07:25, 31 January 2007 (UTC)
I apologize . . . upon review I see that all you did was move the AfD template to the bottom of the article, so my warning doesn't apply. Still, try to avoid moving AfD templates to the bottom of the article. janejellyroll 07:27, 31 January 2007 (UTC)
  • You're great Jane! Thanks for staying on the ball. :P Jasontom 08:31, 31 January 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Suggestion

Unfortunately, I really don't think you're going to pass Wikipedia's notability test for biographies. The article looks likely to be deleted. I suggest you just move the content of the article to your userpage before it gets deleted. Hong Qi Gong (Talk - Contribs) 07:13, 31 January 2007 (UTC)

  • I believe the article deserves more time for it to grow. A well-written sourced article does not happen overnight, I am no expert editor. Jasontom 07:34, 31 January 2007 (UTC)
I know you believe that, but I think the article is going to be deleted anyway. I'm just offering this suggestion because once the article is deleted, the content in it will be lost, because the edit history of the article will be deleted, also. Hong Qi Gong (Talk - Contribs) 07:36, 31 January 2007 (UTC)
  • Thanks for the suggestion! However I don't understand why this article can't be built upon with contributions like many smaller articles throughout Wikipedia?? Jasontom 07:44, 31 January 2007 (UTC)
Like I said, I don't think you (currently) pass Wikipedia's notability test. It doesn't matter how much the article is expanded upon. In other words, your music career needs to get bigger before you're worthy of having a biographical article on Wikipedia. Hong Qi Gong (Talk - Contribs) 07:48, 31 January 2007 (UTC)
  • There are articles about less notable subjects that are still accepted within Wikipedia. I guess Wikipedia has a set of rules that bar editors. Now that is not to undermine the status of members such as you or janejellybean, but if notability is in question then I would question the legitimacy of quite a few members. I've already cleared the page, feel free to complete the task at hand. Jasontom 08:09, 31 January 2007 (UTC)
Well, Wikipedia is essentially ran by its editors, and you are an editor. If you feel that certain particular subjects are not notable, then by all means, nominate such articles for deletion. Just because an article exists and has not been nominated deletion, it does not mean that it necessarily passes the notability test. It could just mean that nobody has actually bothered to nominate it for deletion, so it exists. I think this is probably the majority of the cases for the existence of articles on subjects that are not notable. Hong Qi Gong (Talk - Contribs) 08:26, 31 January 2007 (UTC)
  • Alright then, as an editor myself the "Jason Tom" article is notable enough and should not be deleted. Jasontom 08:30, 31 January 2007 (UTC)
Um... yeah, why don't you read Wikipedia:Deletion policy. No one single non-admin editor decides which article should be deleted and which article should remain. I said if you think an article is not notable, then nominate it for deletion. Like I said, and without any meaning to offend, your musical career needs to get bigger before you deserve to have your own Wikipedia article. Please read the notability test link I provided in one of my previous comments here. Hong Qi Gong (Talk - Contribs) 08:39, 31 January 2007 (UTC)

Well you're not Wikipedia, neither am I. Sorry that nobody told you this when you were growing up, but fame will not give any person true success. The article ain't solely about just any person's musical career BTW, it's about an accomplished Asian American if you've actually spent the time to read the article. You want a musician that is famous? No problem, Wikipedia has that. What about all of the independant artists that are out there today? Wikipedia definitely has a spot for them as well. You wish to argue against that? That "notability test," well it is not set to stone. I know you are a resonable human being that know life is never set to stone either. We as human just create such limitations on ourselves and push it onto others. Jasontom 09:00, 31 January 2007 (UTC)

Look, man, I'm just trying to help here. Decisions on Wikipedia in general are made by community concensus, and most Wikipedia editors will apply the notability test to biographical articles. You're barking up the wrong tree here talking about fame not being "true success" or about exposure for independent artists. I'm just telling you how Wikipedia works, and no, Wikipedia doesn't really have a spot for people who are not notable. I don't necessarily agree with all the policies on Wikipedia or how people apply them. But it is what it is. Hong Qi Gong (Talk - Contribs) 16:00, 31 January 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Userpage move

I have reverted the user page move because it doesn't change anything but the URL and title of your user page. If you want to change your username, there's Wikipedia:Changing usernameRyūlóng () 08:39, 31 January 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Trying to help

Hi Jason

I'm concerned that you may be very disappointed that your article was deleted. WP's notability criteria mean that any biographical entry must be for a notable person. Not someone who will be notable. (We actually have a whole page about that, at WP:CRYSTAL) I'm sure you're an accomplished musician and will have a magnificent career, but we can't carry an article about you until you pass the guidelines at WP:MUSIC (or a different set if Music is not the only basis for the claim of notability). Sadly, appearing on You Tube is something anyone with a webcam and a few minutes to spare can achieve and is not deemed notable.

If you'd like any help, please do drop me a line. In the meantime, you're welcome to contribute to other parts of WP, not just those pertaining to yourself. For starters, I think there are any number of articles about your genre of music or about Asian Americans that can do with updating or upgrading. --Dweller 10:09, 31 January 2007 (UTC)
