User talk:Jasonglchu/DVDEmpire.com

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

This page was created to document correspondence I received about DVDEmpire.com. My current view of the page is that the subject is notable enough to warrant a Wikipedia entry, and that the current version (as of 16:29, 17 Jun 2005 (UTC)) is sufficiently NPOV that it is encyclopaedic. jglc | t | c 16:30, 17 Jun 2005 (UTC)

[edit] DVDEmpire.com

I can understand your hesitance, but it looks OK to me.

As for the "advertising" part of our policies, that is merely a recommendation so that people who are overly emotionally involved in a particular subject are encouraged not to edit them - in this case, I feel that it is fine.

Yours,

James F. (talk) 18:44, 16 Jun 2005 (UTC)

[edit] re: DVDEmpire.com (and associated redirects such as AdultDVDEmpire.com)

Hmm... It seems to be notable enough to keep, unless it was created by an employee of the company or it is found to be generally false (fake company, company not as notable as claimed, etc.) But it certainly needs NPOVing. As for the redirects, if they are parts of the company, they should stay as redirects, as I seriously doubt that they're notable enough for their own articles. You (Talk) 18:46, Jun 16, 2005 (UTC)

I left a message on User talk:Los Diablos, and will keep an eye on DVDEmpire.com. You (Talk) 20:31, Jun 16, 2005 (UTC)

I feel that we should both keep an eye on this page, although I wouldn't say "with an iron fist". Yes, I feel that NPOV is the single most important principle here. Since there's only one of him/her and two of us, we've got the 3RR on our side, and many of the user's edits were obviously POV and unsuitable for an encylopedia. While your corrections are also subject to being edited if they're not quite NPOV (which Los Diablos is welcome to help with NPOVing it if s/he wishes.) My guess is that within a week or two, Los Diablos will either leave or do something to get himself/herself blocked for awhile. You (Talk) 21:09, Jun 16, 2005 (UTC)

[edit] newbie - DVDEmpire.com

i am still learning all of this, and your terse responses are in no way helping the situation. if i should not have set up the AdultDVDEmpire.com redirect, then take it down. but i have to say, the labryinth wikipedia calls its help pages are difficult to follow to say the least.

for example, you took down my graphic because you were afraid of copyright violation. now, in the 22 pages called Help: Images and other uploaded files, it does not mention copyright issues. as a matter of fact, i even looked for it. so how was i supposed to know?

also, i could not find any information about posting external links to adult retailers. if those too should be removed, i will do so.

please get back to me on this. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Los Diablos (talkcontribs) 18:45, 16 Jun 2005.

[edit] why did you make edits to dvdempire?

obviously you have issues with pornography and it shows in your un-NPOV edits to my page. not to mention the fact that your grammar is atrocious and your edits even changed the meaning behind certain paragraphs. i would like the contact info for you supervisor so i can continue you this with them.

and the only reason i protest too much, is because you are being unreasonable. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Los Diablos (talkcontribs) 19:51, 16 Jun 2005.

In my defense, I would like to state that my grammar is impeccable. I have test scores, if you want to see them ;) jglc | t | c 20:56, 16 Jun 2005 (UTC)

[edit] your superior's contact info

you did not provide me with your superior's contact info. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Los Diablos (talkcontribs) 19:57, 16 Jun 2005.

[edit] your superior's contact info 2

someone gave you your position to jerk people around on this site, i want that person's talk page. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Los Diablos (talkcontribs) 20:01, 16 Jun 2005.

[edit] your superior's contact info 3

anyone can edit, i understand wikipedia. but you obviously have more power than the average registered user. how did you recieve those priveleges? someone at wikipedia must have contacted you and thought you would be good at it.

such as james, the other contact, he contacted me after i sent an email to the info@wikipedia.com address. he must be affiliated with wikipedia in some fashion. as i assume you are.

if you are in fact just another user, what's your problem? you are destroying the entry for your own personal issues.

[edit] the graphic you removed

so you just happened along seconds after i posted my graphic to take it down? (mistakeningly i might add)

i am reverting the page back to the original. of the 3 people (you, james, and YOu) you are the only one that felt you needed to make edits.

the pov is fine and you have no factual info about the company to add. and your edits were atrocious. leave the page alone and there will be no war.

[edit] response to response2

i am leaving for the day. i will detail my issues with your edits tomorrow.

[edit] wikipedia's shortcomings and a compromise

in jasonglchu's zeal to defend the "rules" of this site (which i understand are more like guidelines), jasonglchu is trampling on the very ideas wikipedia was founded on.

1. wikipedia is a COMMUNITY of users: if jasonglchu edits new entries (as s/he so proudly admitted to doing to mine within seconds of its going live on the site) to how jasonglchu deems it should be, then are you not acting counter to the basic idea of wiki... that this site is a community of people, where people from all walks of life contribute. it is not one person, with by all appearances nothing else to do, editing every post to how he wants it to read.

as i see it, jasonglchu's behavior toward newcomers is the proverbial "weak link" of this site and will ultimately be its downfall. by jasonglchu's own admission, jasonglchu didn't even read the entry and was trying to delete it. that is just absurd.

2. newcomers are the life blood of wikipedia: if jasonglchu attacks every newcomer to wikipedia seconds after they list an entry, as he did with me, then why would someone want to come back and list something else on this site. after i saved my entry, i didn't even get a new browser window open and clicked over to wikipedia before my graphic had been taken down and jasonglchu was threatening to delete the entire entry. and being a newcomer, i not only found that highly combative, but felt as though i had to respond in kind before he destroyed my work.

i for one will never be back except to monitor my page. and i think "YOu" and jasonglchu both need to read this page, jasonglchu pretty much VIOLATED EVERY guideline set forth for conduct.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Please_don%27t_bite_the_newcomers

3. lastly, i am making a few edits to the page. but i will leave your NPOV changes in, not because i think you are right, but because i simply don't have the time to keep fighting you over this.

i will be changing the heading of the 3rd chapter to read simply "Future Expansion." and in that following paragraph, "Adult Entertainment" to "Adult Movies" which wikilinks to pornography.

i see that as a compromise.

"If you do determine, or sincerely believe, a newcomer has made a mistake, such as forgetting to put titles in boldface, or failing to make useful links, try to correct the mistake yourself" (emphasis added). Which I did.
Admittedly, I could have been more open to your acting in good faith (which, as you pointed out, are guidelines, not rules). It was my fault that I was not. The compromises sound acceptable. jglc | t | c 14:06, 17 Jun 2005 (UTC)
