[edit] Chicago pedway

Hi, i saw your contributions to the pedway article. I was wondering if you know of a site that has more info on this? or is there a map of the network? I'd like to explore this. - Milk 6 July 2005 05:15 (UTC)

[edit] Chicago: "Global" links

Something still wrong with this sentence after you edited it:

Growing from frontier town in 1833 to one of the world's premier cities, Chicago is today ranked as "Global City" by the GaWC as one of the ten alpha world cities.

Is it a Global City and one of the ten alpha world cities. ??

Also, I wouldn't use an acronym when the full name of the organization hasn't appeared earlier. But then this link is to an article about global city, not the organization. The sentence and the links need sorting out. DavidH 05:07, August 7, 2005 (UTC)

I saw your reply on the talk page. I would have fixed it myself but couldn't figure out exactly what new information you had that led to the changes. Sorry. Copyediting I can and do when I see a clear mistake, but this seemed like you had additional research on the ranking or name of the organization. I appologize if it was incorrect and it seemed like I was scolding you rather than just making a simple fix. Thanks for your contributions. DavidH 06:15, August 7, 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Hospitals in Chicagoland

This is just a brief note that I recently updated Hospitals in Chicagoland with 2005 information from Crain's. (I also changed the listing from hospital systems to hospitals, as the sources treat the hospitals in big systems like Advocate and Resurrection individually.) I thought I'd mention it here since you originated the page. I don't know if Wiki courtesy calls for that, but it can't hurt. In any event, I'm very glad I saw your user page, since I learned about WikiProject Chicago as a result. Paul Turner 21:38, 25 November 2005 (UTC)

[edit] City naming

I noticed your comment of agreement regarding the city naming issue. Please consider voting on the issue in the discussion at this page: Wikipedia talk:Naming conventions (city names) --Serge 23:36, 6 December 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Hey

Hey Jasen, I sent you an e-mail a few days ago; did you get it? I guess not. Anyway, I saw that you nominated yourself for RfA. You're probably not currently ready for adminship, since while you do good work on Wikipedia you don't need administrative tools for it. Would you mind if I removed the entry for now? You can follow the suggestions already left there and reapply in the future. — Knowledge Seeker 03:29, 4 January 2006 (UTC)

I'm sorry it didn't reach you. You're an excellent editor, of course. But voters on RfA tend to highly value being part of Wikipedia policy-type stuff, community action, and a demonstrable desire to accomplish tasks that can only be performed with administrative powers. The reason I suggest removal is because RfA can be quite toxic these days (if I weren't yet an administrator, I'm not sure I'd want to run anymore), especially if someone has been uncivil in the past or has made questionable edits or decisions. Sometimes editors (good editors who just wouldn't necessarily make good administrators) get so hurt/upset that they leave Wikipedia temporarily or permanently, and I wouldn't want to see that happen here. Now you don't have any misbehavior like that in your past as far as I've seen, which is why voters reacted as favorably as they did, but there's still no need to go through that unnecessarily. If you decide you'd like to seek adminship later on, they've left some great comments for you. And I'd of course be happy to help. Happy editing, and good work on all the Chicago-related material! — Knowledge Seeker 04:42, 5 January 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Parks of Chicago Spoken

I've had a listen, as you requested, and I think you've done a very nice spoken article. Your voice-work is clear and understandable, and technically it sounds clean, with no audible clipping, background noise or processing artefacts (the bane of people who have to apply noise reduction to deal with the noise of computer fans, as I do).

You might like to try experimenting a bit with microphone placement in order to reduce "breath pops" on "P" sounds. Speaking a little further away from the mic or speaking "across" the mic instead of directly into it should do it.

Also, you could use a higher compression (or lower "quality") level when encoding to Ogg Vorbis, as encoding at 96 kbit/s will result in quite large files when you do longer articles. Voice recordings still sound pretty good when encoded at 48 kbit/s, the WP:WSW recommended rate. I achieve this in Audacity, the software I use, by simply exporting at the lowest "quality" setting.

Nice work, do more! :) --Macropode 07:10, 9 January 2006 (UTC)

Jason, You're entirely welcome to ignore my technical nit-picking above and just record more Chicago-related articles. I have a habit of making things sound more complicated than they really are. -- Macropode 01:18, 13 May 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Apple Store

That's a nice image you added to Apple Store, but did you perhaps mean to put it here? (Not that I have any idea why those articles are separate...) Equalpants 14:53, 23 March 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Two chicago portals

Hi, you created two Chicago portals, Portal:Chicago and Portal:Chicago, Illinois. Do we need them both? Steve block talk 21:10, 24 March 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Image Tagging for Image:Actor-jalexander.gif

Thanks for uploading Image:Actor-jalexander.gif. The image has been identified as not specifying the source and creator of the image, which is required by Wikipedia's policy on images. If you don't indicate the source and creator of the image on the image's description page, it may be deleted some time in the next seven days. If you have uploaded other images, please verify that you have provided source information for them as well.

[edit] Image Tagging Image:47a 1.gif

Warning sign
This media may be deleted.

Thanks for uploading Image:47a 1.gif. I notice the 'image' page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you have not created this media yourself then there needs to be an argument why we have the right to use the media on Wikipedia (see copyright tagging below). If you have not created the media yourself then it needs to be specified where it was found, i.e., in most cases link to the website where it was taken from, and the terms of use for content from that page.

If the media also doesn't have a copyright tag then one should be added. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then the {{GFDL-self}} tag can be used to release it under the GFDL. If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Fair use, use a tag such as {{fairusein|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair_use. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other media, consider checking that you have specified their source and copyright tagged them, too. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any unsourced and untagged images will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. —Bkell (talk) 06:14, 30 June 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Merge Categories

I have put Cat:National Historic Landmark up to be merged, since a similar category already exists and has many more entries. Nationalparks 22:12, 12 July 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Laboratory

I have written a new short article called "George Herbert Jones Laboratory," as that is the full name of the building on the University of Chicago's web page University of Chicago. Best wishes, Bigturtle 22:13, 13 July 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Leslie and the Ly's

Since you have contributed to the Leslie and the Ly's article, I thought you might like to be aware of the following discussions:

Some of the comments are highly amusing, I'm sure you'll agree. RFerreira 19:02, 22 August 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Paul Salopek

Jason, I did a little cleanup of your user page (hope you don't mind) and removed the fair use image you had in your sandbox (hope you don't mind that either), but the reason I was here was that you started Paul Salopek and I was wondering if you can add anything since I've built up the article a bit. -- Ricky81682 (talk) 21:45, 27 August 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Taichung City

I am new on WikiProject Cities. I have added considerable content to the first city I am working on, which happens to be the city of my residence, Taichung City. Would you mind taking a few minutes to look it over and leave comments on how you think I can make it better to bring it up to WikiProject Cities standards in a section of the discussion page for the city’s article page that I have set up.

Thank you. Ludahai 03:43, 17 October 2006 (UTC)

[edit] New WikiProject Illinois Collaboration Division

Hey, saw you were a participant in the Illinois WikiProject. I thought I would let you know that there is a new Collaboration Division up for the project. The goal of the division is to select an article or articles for improvement to Good article standard or higher. There is a simple nomination process, which you can check out on the division subpage, to make sure each candidate for collaboration has enough interested editors. This is a good way to get a lot of articles to a quality status quickly. Please consider participating. More details can be seen at the division subpage. IvoShandor 11:22, 10 March 2007 (UTC)
