Wikipedia-specific Google searchbox

The default Wikipedia search engine can be slow and unreliable. Luckily, alternatives are available, such as a customized Google searchbox, already preset to search Wikipedia: [1]

Cut and paste it to your Userpage, or click on it, and save it as a button on your browser's toolbar.

Install your first javascript

Here's how to install a nifty little program called Navigation Popups to enhance your Wikipedia account.

  • Step 1:    You must have a user account in order to install and use the Navigation popups feature. If you do not have an account you will need to create one and log in.
  • Step 2:    Copy this: {{subst:navpop}}
  • Step 4:    Save the page.
  • Step 5:    Clear your browser's cache (hold down the SHIFT key while reloading/refreshing page).

Assuming that you have not disabled javascript in your browser, a useful popup should appear whenever you hover your mouse over an internal link in Wikipedia.

The above operation will add the Navigation Popups program to your .js file.

Note: If you are using a skin other than MonoBook (the default), the relevant file you will need to edit is listed below.

The long reign of Ivan Alexander is considered a transitional period in Bulgarian medieval history. Ivan Alexander began his rule by dealing with internal problems and external threats from Bulgaria's neighbours, the Byzantine Empire and Serbia, as well as leading his empire into a period of economic recovery and cultural and religious renaissance. However, the emperor was later unable to cope with the mounting incursions of Ottoman forces, Hungarian invasions from the northwest and the Black Death.
