Jasrotia is the name of a branch of the Kachwaha clan of Suryavanshi rajputs. Jasrotia's are sub clans of Jamwals (natives of Jammu province of j&k). Jasrota was their capital, which is situated about 45kms before Jammu city. Raja Dhan Singh (younger brother of Raja of Jammu) was its founder. In the year 1586 Mughal army led by Raja Bhagawant Das of Amber attacked Kashmir. One Ramchandra cousin of Bhagawant Das was also with him. After winning the battle Ramchandra was appointed to adminster some areas of this region. Ramchandra founded the city of Jammu and named it after his Kuldevi, Jamwa Mata. Jamwa Mata is still regarded Kuldevi of Kachawa Rajputs. 11th century temple of this goddess is situated at Jamwa Ramgarh near Jaipur. The name Jammu and Jamwal comes from Jamwa Mata.
