Jason "Schmidtty" Fischer (born January 3, 1971) is an American radio talk show co-producer for "The Mitch in the Morning Show" on KJR-AM based in Seattle, Washington. Fischer was raised in Somerville, Massachusetts and graduated from Somerville High School in 1989. He continued his education at New England Institute Of Arts And Communication and graduated in 1993 with a major in radio broadcasting. In the summer of 2006, Fischer was the cause of several hate emails because of his freely expressed desire for the Seattle Seahawks to have a 3 - 13 record. However, throughout the following months since the incident, many Seattle sports radio fans have grown fond of his New England accent and witty remarks. He is currently still often criticized by on-air radio personalities Mitch Levy and Steve Sandmeyer for repeatedly failing to report to work on time. In January of 2006, co-producer Matt Gaschk played a cell phone voice message by Fischer nearly weeping in tears from the guilt of being late.
[edit] Ringwald Interview
On October 24, 2007, Schmidtty interviewed actress Molly Ringwald which was later played the following morning. He was pre-selected by Mitch Levy with the intention Fischer would embarrass himself resulting in an entertaining interview for the listeners. Prior to the interview, Levy expressed concern that the interview would not equal the hype. After the interview was played on-air on October 25, 2007, Matt Gaschk recounted Schmidtty smelling the chair which Ringwald was sitting in following her departure from the studio. Later that week, Fischer described in a blog, "She signed a photo for me and even took her big sweater jacket off so that she could take the photo with me that you see on my profile. I kept my hand closed slightly just where her waist and backside meet, though I wastempted to open it up..believe me I was!"
[edit] Tracy Taylor Dispute
Fischer has been in an ongoing dispute with co-worker and traffic-updater Tracy Taylor. While Mitch Levy was on vacation, Taylor became agitated by Schmidtty's comments about the basketball program at Gonzaga University which she is a fan of. Since the occurrence, Tracy has become uptight when the argument is brought up on the air. In the most recent incident, Taylor was spotted by Fischer in the studio upon receiving a Valentine's Day gift from her ex-boyfriend Num-Nuts. Fischer advised Levy of the situation and the event was brought up on-air to which Taylor became very defensive and agitated.
