[edit] userpage discussions
Hi, I see you left a note with Jvian already about your userpage. I left both of them a note and moved their discussions to their talk pages. I left the one that you left originally, just rv'd the two latest ones. They were moved to User talk:Jvian & User talk:Eduardo Cuellar respectively. I just wanted to give you a heads up on what I did. Cheers. ∞Who?¿? 08:33, 29 July 2005 (UTC)
[edit] my userpage
Actually, it was a "friendly vandal" who came through and tweaked the layout. It's always looked fine on my screen! :-) I'm not up for going around and doing rigorous testing on different setups, so I suppose I should simplify it. Anyway, thanks for the feedback! [edit] Nomen nudum
You marked nomen nudum for speedy deletion. But the article was in fact quite correct. Please take more care. Gdr 15:37:18, 2005-07-31 (UTC)
- At the time, it was patent nonsense. ‡ Jarlaxle 20:17, July 31, 2005 (UTC)
No, it wasn't. The revision you marked for speedy deletion [1] was quite correct, as a simple Google search would have told you. Gdr 21:42:33, 2005-07-31 (UTC)
- Oops. My mistake. ‡ Jarlaxle 21:50, July 31, 2005 (UTC)
[edit] Thanks for the Welcome
I don't need to say anything else ... nice to be welcomed, thank you. WP can be a place of overwhelming "cliqueness", where sensible edits are instantly removed by "members" for no legitimate reason other than the poster is not a member. I will work to change that, and my undesireable activities will cease shortly, once I have had enough fun with certain members.
Thanks again. oops --Zippydeedoodah 22:15, 31 July 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Problems with font
Hi there, I saw your complaint on the am.wiki, I haven't actually tried the solution on that page so I can't vouch for that one, but there is another solution you can link to from the Main Page, just look for the English words "Can't see the font?" and try that method...
If that doesn't work, it could be a Unicode issue with your windows or browser system...

[edit] About translating
Hello, you welcomed me the other day and I thank you.
But I have a question about style in the Wikipedia and I didn't found in the Manual of Style, and I don't know where to ask someone else, so you are the one closest.
Right now I'm working on a project to have info about bands from Latin America in the Wikipedia, but I don't know where I should translate and where not, can you explain me?
Should I translate the name of the band? I saw some bands with their names translated, but I also saw others without it translated.
Should I translate the name of the albums and songs of the band? I haven't seen any bands with this translated, but in the articles I made I translated them.
Thank you very much and sorry for bothering, and sorry for forgeting about signing my message. --Nicanor5 23:18, 21 August 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Recent edits' formatting
I realize you've been gone a while: in the interim, there is consensus on the "External Links" vs. "External links" (that's why Bluebot is allowed to go around fixing them); specifically, it's been decided (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Manual_of_Style_%28headings%29#Standard_headings_and_ordering) that "External links" will exclusively be used. --Maru (talk) Contribs 05:17, 19 November 2005 (UTC)
- I see. I'm disappointed by that consensus. Except for articles ( ie. the), conjunctions, prepositions, and possibly some other word categories, the words in headings are supposed to be capitalized. <font color="black">⇒</font> <font face="Euclid Fraktur"> <font color="darkgreen">Jarlaxle</font><font color="goldenrod">Artemis</font></font> 05:23, 19 November 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Forgotten Realms Project
Hi,
We are working on a Forgotten Realms Project to map Toril (mostly Faerûn, at the present). Since you contributed quite a lot on a Forgotten Realms-specific entry, I'd like to invite you to join the project, so we could improve the “Mapping the Realms” project.
The goal is to create a sort of World Factbook for the Realms. This means:
- A consistent content
- Use of templates
- Entries should be limited to “sovereign places”: states and free cities, as well a moderately-inhabited place such as the Western Highlands.
On top of this, we also plan to cover Lost Empires, such as Pelvuria or Imaskar and, of course, Netheril
- The project is located here
- The Geographical index of Toril is a good start to get a visual of had been done, as well as the Halruaa entry.
Main contributors are presently
Feel free to take a look. We hope to see you soon mapping the Realms with us! Reply to David Latapie 12:16, 8 December 2005 (UTC)
[edit] Phobias
Please read the -phobia article carefully and don't add phobias about whoch there is nothing specific to say beyond dictionary definition. Please add them to wiktionary. You may want to expand the wiktionary:Category:Phobias, startind from categorizing phobias fromwiktionary:User:TheDaveRoss/phobias.
You may also want to read Talk:-phobia#There isn't a single thing someone hasn't a phobia about and other discussion. mikka (t) 02:19, 11 December 2005 (UTC)
Once again: as with any other lists in wikipedia, like List of websites, Internet phenomenon, etc., to list something, you must prove its notability. The -phobia article spells it. Please don't pump coinages that don't have significant usage. Note: references from snake oil psycho websites don't count. They collect everything that floats on net. mikka (t) 06:18, 11 December 2005 (UTC)
You wrote: there is plenty of dicdefs, and several more will not hurt. Well. I am working carefully weeding out bullshit from the page. Ideally all from the bottom list must either go or move up, into solid section. But I am realistic and dont' delete everything just because they don't have articles yet. Most of what's left are common phobias with chance to have an article. Please, don't add helpless terms that cannot go beyond dicdef. mikka (t) 06:23, 11 December 2005 (UTC)

- Just to chime in, the main problem I see is lack of source, and under current rules that forces deletion in seven days. You may notice that some of the images in your gallery have already been deleted, so the process is underway. Stan 18:29, 19 December 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Request for edit summary
When editing an article on Wikipedia there is a small field labelled "Edit summary" under the main edit-box. It looks like this:
The text written here will appear on the Recent changes page, in the page revision history, on the diff page, and in the watchlists of users who are watching that article. See m:Help:Edit summary for full information on this feature.
When you leave the edit summary blank, some of your edits could be mistaken for vandalism and may be reverted, so please always briefly summarize your edits, especially when you are making subtle but important changes, like changing dates or numbers. Thank you.
– Oleg Alexandrov (talk) 06:34, 14 January 2006 (UTC)- PS: When you post to the Village Pump, where the edit summary is the main way somebody can tell what is going on, using edit summaries is even more requested. You have been told. :) Oleg Alexandrov (talk) 06:34, 14 January 2006 (UTC)

[edit] list redirect
Just a friendly note to say you redirected my japanoise artist list to japanese artists, although I actually meant japanoise (i.e. ジャパノイズ = "japanoise", aka 'Japanese noise'), a musicians sub-genre list. Hope there's no future misunderstanding. Nagelfar 17:31, 22 January 2006 (UTC)
- Sorry about that. There isn't an article called Japanoise, so I thought it was a typo. ⇒ JarlaxleArtemis 03:48, 23 January 2006 (UTC)
-
- Understandable, it's closely enough related in explaination that it is covered in the 'noise music' article; I'll go ahead and make a 'Japanoise' redirect to it now. Though I feel I should say, even if it were a typo, it would be helpful to wikipedia as a whole to incorporate any new information when & if you're going to take the initative to redirect a duplicate article; merging them. One of the things that I would have assumed should have stopped any misunderstanding would have been the fact that none of those recording artists I listed were already on any list of Japanese artists. A little extra attention paid should have caught that. Anyway, All the best to you, Nagelfar 05:02, 23 January 2006 (UTC)

[edit] User:JarlaxleArtemis/Image Gallery
Hi, I took the liberty of turning this gallery page into a list of links instead. There where a large number of fair use images there (76 acording to this report) and our policy is to now allow such images to be used on userpages or subpages thereof. Feel free to pick out any free licensed images you have contributed and show them in a gallery though, I only listified them all indiscriminately because it was a lot faster than checking each and every image to see if it was fair use or not. --Sherool (talk) 16:28, 24 January 2006 (UTC)
- Hi again, I reverted your revert. As I said feel free to show any free licensed images you have uploaded in a gallery, but displaying fair use images on userpages (and user subpages) violate Wikipedia fair use policy (See Wikipedia:Fair use#Fair use policy (point #9)), so don't just revert back to the full gallery. Thanks. --Sherool (talk) 23:37, 25 January 2006 (UTC)
- Google has tons of image galleries under the fair use claim. The images are roughly the same size as the images in my gallery were. If Google can do it, why can't Wikipedia contributors? ⇒ JarlaxleArtemis 04:11, 27 January 2006 (UTC)
- Because Google has big expensive lawyers and Wikipedia has a policy against doing it. DreamGuy 05:04, 27 January 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Image Tagging Image:Ed Greenwood.jpg
|
Thanks for uploading Image:Ed Greenwood.jpg. I notice the image page currently doesn't specify who created the image, so the copyright status is therefore unclear. If you have not created the image yourself then you need to argue that we have the right to use the image on Wikipedia (see copyright tagging below). If you have not created the image yourself then you should also specify where you found it, i.e., in most cases link to the website where you got it, and the terms of use for content from that page.
If the image also doesn't have a copyright tag then you must also add one. If you created/took the picture then you can use {{GFDL}} to release it under the GFDL. If you believe the image qualifies as fair use, please read fair use, and then use a tag such as {{fairusein|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair_use. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.
If you have uploaded other images, please check that you have specified their source and copyright tagged them, too. You can find a list of image pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any unsourced and untagged images will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. Stan 05:45, 26 January 2006 (UTC)
- Next time actually check to see if an image has a source instead of just assuming it doesn't. ⇒ JarlaxleArtemis 00:15, 6 February 2006 (UTC)
I see you've changed the licensing tag on this image to {{promotional}}. However, you have not provided any evidence that this image comes from a press kit; the only source you list is a website which does not state that the images are for publicity purposes. Therefore I've reinstated the deletion process. —Psychonaut 21:56, 19 February 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Guenhwyvar
On the Guenhwyvar page, you reverted my edits that Guenhwyvar is actually male. I am sorry to inform you of this, but Guenhwyvar IS a male. according to chapter 17 "vengenace" in Salvatore's The Crystal Shard, drizzt says, quote:
- "Guenhwyvar is no demon," Drizzt reassured his large companion [Wulfgar]. He is a valuable friend and ally."
Thus, I added the "gender controversy" subsection to the panther's characteristics.
Please understand. I will not begin a revert war, so I ask that all versions of "she" be turned to "it", and rewrite the gender controversy section accordingly.

[edit] War of the Spider Queen
I removed this section from the Vhaeraun article the first time because, as currently written, it is 1) non-enyclopedic, and 2) copied word-for-word from one of the novels, & thus a violation of copyright. I would suggest altering it in order to correct these problems. Robbstrd 22:21, 13 February 2006 (UTC)
- I re-added it, as it is 1) encyclopedic, and 2) the only thing copied is the deities' dialogue, which is quotations and thus serves as fair use. ⇒ JarlaxleArtemis 00:23, 14 February 2006 (UTC)

- According to computer records, you apparently created a number of accounts to either spoof or mock Wikipedia edits. One of the requirements of your unbanning is that you Repair any damage caused by acts of sockpuppetry/impersonation on other Wikis. Here is Psychonaut's note from February indicating that you still had not completed that part of the requirement.[3] It seems a bit late for you to just now be inquiring about the terms of your unbanning. Regarding my userpage, it's a complaint about me which I found amusing. Getting back to the apology, an apology posted in a hiding place is not an apology. For it to have any effect you have to apologize to the harmed parties directly. Please add me to the list. Cheers, -Will Beback 06:17, 13 March 2006 (UTC)

- It's highly unlikely that the User:Psychonauts on the various other Wikiprojects were not created by JarlaxleArtemis, given that:
- It's been proven that JarlaxleArtemis created a number of accounts impersonating me on English Wikipedia. Examples include User:Psyсhonaut (the с is actually a Cyrillic letter, believe). See User:Linuxbeak/Admin stuff/JarlaxleArtemis for IP logs.
- At about the same time the above accounts were being created, users reported seeing User:Psychonauts vandalize other Wikimedia projects. Most of those user pages redirected to en:User:Psychonaut. See User talk:Psychonaut#Please explain this: for details.
- No other Wikipedian (including Willy on Wheels, with whom I've had no dealings) has a history of or motivation for impersonating me.
- In any event, unless JarlaxleArtemis recruited a friend to do this, it will be easy to link him to the Wikimedia accounts by checking the IP logs, as was done for the English Wikipedia by Tim Starling. —Psychonaut 11:11, 13 March 2006 (UTC)

- I must add a comment that IP logs are not as trustworthy as most of you believed. My ISP, Hong Kong Broadband, uses a DHCP IP-hopping technology to randomly re-distribute IPs every day, and therefore all IPs of the customers subscribed to this ISP are shared. This resulted in my use of many IPs previously used by vandals, and I was being blocked through IP a few weeks ago due to this technical problem. I would keep my story short as I'm not coming to tell my story, but I wanna warn admins who like checking IPs that IP checking is not as reliable as you think. --Deryck C. 12:10, 13 March 2006 (UTC)
- The difference between your case and this one is that in yours, your IP address was being misidentified as some random vandal targetting some random Wikipedia pages, whereas in this case we are linking a vandal with a particular agenda and known account to various anonymous accounts with the same agenda and coming from the same ISP. The likelihood of an independent third party at JarlaxleArtemis's ISP vandalizing the exact set of people JarlaxleArtemis has a grudge against is so remote as to be virtually impossible. —Psychonaut 13:18, 13 March 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Unblocked
I asked Guanaco to review the situation, and he has unblocked you, per the posted apology. Some of the other complaints seem to have merits, but I'm not in the mood to investigate them. Be good. --Phroziac ♥♥♥♥ 02:28, 19 March 2006 (UTC)
- I don't understand. Has Jarlaxle notified everyone of his apology? Posting an apology in a secret location does not seem to fulfill any conceibable meaning of "write an apology to". -Will Beback 02:59, 19 March 2006 (UTC)

- When user:Psychonaut and user:Linuxbeak indicate that they are satisfied with your compliance on the damage recovery then that should take care of that requirement. - I have already completed my unbanning requirements. ⇒ JarlaxleArtemis 03:24, 23 March 2006 (UTC)
- No you haven't. On 2006-03-14 you sent me the passwords to wikibooks:User:Psychonaut, wikispecies:User:Psychonaut, wikinews:User:Psychonaut, wiktionary:User:Psychonaut, and wikisource:User:Psychonaut, but I still haven't received the passwords to meta:User:Psychonaut and commons:User:Psychonaut. —Psychonaut 05:35, 23 March 2006 (UTC)
Please stop editing pending the completion of your unbanning requirements. If you do not do so voluntarily I will block your account. -Will Beback 22:04, 23 March 2006 (UTC)
- A minor aside—from the comment at m:User talk:Psychonaut, it appears that Silsor has already confiscated the account on Meta and changed its password; Jarlaxle can't turn over the password for that account because he doesn't have it. I don't know anything about the Commons account, however—I would urge Jarlaxle to turn over the password for that account immediately or provide a good explanation why he can't. TenOfAllTrades(talk) 22:42, 23 March 2006 (UTC)
- OK, I've contacted User:Silsor to ask for access to the Meta:User:Psychonaut account. I still need access to commons:User:Psychonaut though. —Psychonaut 01:16, 24 March 2006 (UTC)
- Update: User:Silsor has given me the password for Meta:User:Psychonaut, and I've taken possession of this account. As for Commons:User:Psychonaut, I just received the following e-mail from JarlaxleArtemis:
Date: Sat, 25 Mar 2006 00:10:18 GMT Message-Id: <200603250010.k2P0AIKx016281@srv61.pmtpa.wmnet> To: Psychonaut <e-mail address redacted> Subject: Wikipedia e-mail X-Mailer: MediaWiki mailer From: JarlaxleArtemis <e-mail address redacted> I tried to log in to the Commons account with as many potential passwords that I could think of, but I was not successful. Perhaps someone with the "rename user" ability on Commons could rename the account. Then you could recreate it with your own password.
-
- I don't know anything about this "rename user" function, but if it does exist and someone can free up that account for me, then all JarlaxleArtemis's unbanning requirements concerning me will be fulfilled. —Psychonaut 04:32, 26 March 2006 (UTC)
-
- I just found a few more of JarlaxleArtemis's "Psychonaut" accounts on some of the foreign-language Wikipedias (hu, ia, etc.) which I've since repossessed; the passwords were the same as the one he gave me on 14 March. Are there any other accounts I should know about, JarlaxleArtemis? Also, if you could follow up on your "Rename user" plan by asking someone with this ability on Commons to move the account, that would be great. —Psychonaut 04:58, 1 April 2006 (UTC)
-
- The Commons account issue has been resolved. [4] All of JarlaxleArtemis's Psychonaut impersonation accounts that I'm aware of have been restored to me. —Psychonaut 09:26, 2 April 2006 (UTC)
I have blocked the account until the matter of the passwords of doppelganger accounts spoofing Psychonaut and Linuxbeak are resolved. I note that Jarlaxle lied previously on this page, insisting he'd never created such accounts, even though he had most of the passwords. Once Linuxbeak and Psychonaut say that they are satisfied the damage has been repaired we can unblock the account again. -Will Beback 04:31, 25 March 2006 (UTC)
- Typical admin. ⇒ JarlaxleArtemis 05:24, 25 March 2006 (UTC)

- Couldn't you just, you know, comply with the requirements of your agreement, and then the block will go away? Impersonating another editor on a bunch of wikis was a pretty low thing to do, and it's not surprising that people are upset about it. You've had a long time to resolve this. [edit] New problems
According to user:David Gerard at Wikipedia:Administrators' noticeboard/Incidents#JarlaxleArtemis: WP:AN/BJAODN, this user has begun making mischief again. -Will Beback 00:24, 27 March 2006 (UTC)
- How is asking for checkuser rights bad? ⇒ JarlaxleArtemis 02:43, 27 March 2006 (UTC)

- Are you insane? You will never get checkuser rights. Ever. Wikipedia will go to 1.0 before that happens. In fact, you should be nowhere near Checkuser in any form, or anything dealing with adminny-ness. Even asking is a strong indicator you are going to be resuming your vandalizing ways, or are at least considering it. --maru (talk) contribs 02:55, 27 March 2006 (UTC)

- No purpose. It was late at night, and I was bored. I saw a link to the Meta page concerning Checkuser, so I followed it and submitted a form, which took only a few seconds to fill out and submit. I didn't expect to get Checkuser rights, but I didn't see any harm in submitting a useless request. I don't see how Checkuser could help out vandalism, either. ⇒ JarlaxleArtemis 03:55, 1 April 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Requirements met
User:NicholasTurnbull sends his best wishes, says he can't recall any incident either, and waives the requirement. It may have been a mistake by Linuxbeak, though I wonder why you didn't mention it back in November when you agreed to it as part of your unbanning. To recap the history, you were in the midst of your second ArbCom case when you were permanently banned for behavior. You were subsequently unbanned, contingent on certain requirements which which you've now fulfilled. You are editing under parole and mentorship. Complaints from other users or other evidence that you have engaged in the behaviors cited by the ArbCom will result in future blocks without notice. Wikipedia:Requests_for_arbitration/JarlaxleArtemis,Wikipedia:Requests for arbitration/JarlaxleArtemis 2/Proposed decision Those behaviors include: childish behavior, ignorance or defiance of Wikipedia policies, guidelines, and MOS, improper use of image tags, personal attacks, and vandalism. Please do not remove this and other enforcement notices from your talk page until your parole is complete. You are welcome to edit here so long as your contributions are helpful and you follow the norms of the community. -Will Beback 22:57, 10 April 2006 (UTC)
