[edit] Please restore semiprotection to article Kvens of the past

Art Dominique, a banned user, started to vandalize this article again using sock-puppets immediately after it was unprotected. Please restore the protection, or he is going to continue his activities indefinitely. Edit Well, maybe the protection is not necessary after all. Constant banning of the sock-puppets will hopefully turn him away.--217.112.242.181 11:29, 4 October 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Austin Osueke

Why did you delete Austin Osueke's wikipedia article? He has made many credible contributions in the comic book industry. I was currently working on his article until you deleted it I will report you to the appropriate party.

It was deleted via AFD a week ago, see Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Austin Osueke. Jaranda wat's sup 03:24, 8 October 2006 (UTC)

I was trying to fix this article with verifiable facts (which are not press releases). I need you to unprotect so I can complete the task. He has many substantial contributions and deserves an article in Wikipedia. I'm very upset to the point where I will report you to the appropriate party.

So, they can't do anything as it was a valid deletion, take it to WP:DRV. Jaranda wat's sup 03:37, 8 October 2006 (UTC)

I will take it up to WP:DRV but you should undo your deletion. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by SuperCrazy25 (talk • contribs).

It would stay deleted as a valid deletion until a result in WP:DRV is made. Jaranda wat's sup 03:45, 8 October 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Regarding: Burpee's Seedy Theatrical Company

I was wondering if you could tell me why the article on Burpee's Seedy Theatrical Company was deleted, and then protected so as not to be re-created. Any sort of information would be greatly appreciated.

Fails WP:CSD A7, as non-notable group. I didn't protect it though. Thanks Jaranda wat's sup 18:18, 8 October 2006 (UTC)

Thanks, I contacted the admin who protected the page – I had uploaded a revised article without knowing the ramifications of my actions which resulted in page protection. Since then I have placed the article in Wikipedia:Deletion Review and a small discussion has taken place. I understand the reasons for initial deletion now and I have asserted the relevance and notability of the group and a number of alumni in the review discussion. I have not received constructive feedback since Saturday when I provided requested information on the group. I would be greatly appreciative if you would be able to look over that discussion and, as an individual who has had contact with the original article, provide feedback comparing your initial reasons for deleting and your thoughts now. I am honestly trying to validate the article and show the legitimate notability of the group by itself and within its parent collegiate institution. Any feedback you can provide would be wonderful as the lack of discussion on the issue has worried me. Thank you for your time! DMcDonaldII 01:36, 10 October 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Regarding External Links on Juan Gonzalez

Why did you remove the external link to the Juan Gonzalez Fan site at http://juangonzalez.vintagegaming.org? This site offers substantial content to collectors of Juan Gonzalez cards and therefore has substantive value and violates none of the linking rules as far as I can discern.

[edit] How about you check a cited source before you decide an article is bogus

I just created an article for the former rock band Zuckerbaby, and cited a source that confirms everything I wrote. This source was not some blog or biased organization, but a 6-year old article from one of the most widely-circulated music magazines in Canada. Get off your high horse and stick to messing with topics about which you have at least a passing familiarity.

I didn't delete it as an hoax, but see WP:CSD A7, and also please see WP:NPA Jaranda wat's sup 02:45, 10 October 2006 (UTC)

[edit] AVHS Marching Band Page

Please explain why this page was deleted... does not fit the definetion of an a7 deletion and was up less than an hour. Thanks, Xiphos 03:03, 10 October 2006 (UTC)

High school marching bands are not-notable, valid a7, see WP:MUSIC. Jaranda wat's sup 03:05, 10 October 2006 (UTC)

[edit] RE: AVHS Marching Band

Please undelete this article, I feel that it does in fact meet the requirement for placing in a major music competition, and more placings will be posted upon further research. After scanning your comments from other users, I noted that you have a history for overusing the speedy deletion clause and may want to consider the impact on other users. I also note that you pride yourself on being an active member on WIkipedia, but many of your contributions are this kind of deletion soon after a page is created. Numbers are not everything, and I urge you to step back somewhat from your Admin duties as far a deletion of new articles are concerned.

Admins are not God, give the little guys a chance. Isn't that what this project is about?

Xiphos 03:18, 10 October 2006 (UTC)

Place it on WP:DRV, or merge it to the school article, as that's the normal result of school marching band in WP:AFD, it's still a valid speedy, in my time here I don't remember one being in kept completely. If you are willing to merge it, I would restore the content and place it on your userpage. Jaranda wat's sup 03:20, 10 October 2006 (UTC)

Why don't you undelete it yourself?

Correction--- Sorry, I did not see the later updated portion of your reply. Thanks for your consideration and help, I will merge the article with the school site. No need to undelete it, I have a backup file.

Thanks, Xiphos 03:29, 10 October 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Re Streetwise Scarlet

Ok so what is the deal with the deletion since... hmmmm you're a bloody Yank and probably know shite about New Zealand bands and music. And if you actually went to their official site (which may have been myspace but a lot of artists use myspace as their official website now) you would have found not only that they have released singles but that they are being voted for on one of the New Zealand music channels. And since I started it I was going to get the lead singer of the band to expand on it since I sit two cubicles away from him. So before you touch my stuff... bloody well ask and don't EVER do the quick deletion thing to me before I have a chance to question it. So I am going to put them on and you are going to leave it there because there are alot more bands on this site that are way less then what I had put on here. Sorry about the tone and all but it pissed me off and I hate it when people think they know better about another countries music industry than a person who actually lives in that country. [edit] Selena's mom - what's up with that?

It's getting truly irritating to keep finding people who don't know what they're talking about have come back and fiddled with the article to edit the Quintanillas' nationalities. I found a reliable source to back up that her father is Mexican-American and born in Corpus, but I can't find anything to say where her mother was born. Within the last 48 hours, someone came out of nowhere and posted that she's Panamanian. Huh?!? After all, surely if she were, that would have come up by now ... and they had her maiden name wrong, too. I added in the source for the father and added a source for her mother's maiden name (Texas birth record summaries available online), but if someone could provide a reliable source to confirm her mother's birthplace, it should go a long way toward getting people to stop the uninformed edits on this particular point. Thought I'd mention it in case you have any source that mentions where Marcella Quintanilla was born. Best wishes, Lawikitejana 16:42, 13 October 2006 (UTC)

Update:There's something wrong with the formatting or codes in the message "Gary Kirk's RfA," below. When a person adds a new section to this page, instead of appending, it appears in the middle of Gary's comment. Thought I'd mention it in case you can fix it; for now, I just copied and pasted my comments (and the person before me) into the space before Gary's message. [edit] Block of Levine in the Quackwatch article

Dear Jaranda, while you may have wished to be magnanimous in blocking both Fyslee and Levine from editing the Quackwatch article for 12 hours, please note that Fyslee triggered the edit war by deleting links in the article against the significant majority opinion of all other editors involved at the time. If you have a look at the talk page it is clear. For example: " More importantly, editors from different spectrums of opinion are agreeing on this point. David D. (Talk) 02:17, 14 October 2006 (UTC)" Is that fair ? NATTO 08:23, 14 October 2006 (UTC)

One more question, if you may, when an editor is blocked from editing a particular article, when does the block start ? Thanks for your consideration. NATTO 23:00, 14 October 2006 (UTC)
I saw 4 reverts from each, I later saw Frylee apologize. Editors aren't blocked from editing a particular article though unless it's by WP:ARBCOM. They should avoid the article for 24 hours as soon as you reach 3 reverts though. Jaranda wat's sup 00:16, 15 October 2006 (UTC)

One of Levine2112's four reverts was of another link. He reverted the link at issue three times. It was very confusing at the time, being two different links on three different articles.
I have commented the whole issue here:
I have no intention of complaining to anyone else about this issue. I assume that we all acted in good faith. I would still like to understand in what way my interpretation of counting is incorrect. Considering the vast differences in our motivations, I consider it proper that Jaranda blocked both of us. In the future, WP:BLP issues need to be taken into account, since 3RR doesn't apply. In this case, the reverting was not of article content, so the BLP issue is a "maybe" matter. (There are definitely serious BLP problems in the articles themselves, which admins should look into.) It is still definitely a WP:EL matter, and 3RR does apply in such cases. If it had involved BLP-related reversions of wording in the articles themselves, then 3RR would definitely not apply, and discussion and appeal measures should be used before blocking. No hard feelings here. This has been a learning experience. Regards, Fyslee 09:32, 15 October 2006 (UTC)

Jaranda, just so I am clear, can you please provide me with the DIFFs that show I violated the 4RR? Thank you. Levine2112 00:32, 16 October 2006 (UTC)

I made a mistake with the block, looking it closer I saw some kind of removal of links in four difs, one was a removal of another link which I thought it was a revert. I apologize. Jaranda wat's sup 01:06, 16 October 2006 (UTC)

I appreciate the apology. Anyway to expunge the incident from my block log? Levine2112 02:17, 16 October 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/David Brearley High School

The only way the precedent on keeping all schools is going to change is if people who don't like the precedent don't vote keep based on the precedent. JoshuaZ 22:52, 9 November 2006 (UTC)

Just passing by randomly, but I've got to disagree with JoshuaZ here. Supporting schools based on precedent makes good sense, if one feels there is no reason to reopen one of the oldest, most contentious notability questions in Wikipedia's history. Only those folks who wish to see the matter reopened should challenge the precedent -- if Jaranda isn't among these, a comment based on precedent makes perfect sense.
As my own userpage has made clear for over a year now, I also support the precedent, and see nothing to be gained from reopening the matter to new examination. Best wishes, Xoloz 16:57, 10 November 2006 (UTC)
Er, he said in the comment on the AfD "I still don't agree with them being kept, but oh well, live with it." In that regard, simply not commenting could make more sense then keeping per the precedent. JoshuaZ 17:07, 10 November 2006 (UTC)
Ah, the joy of randomly commenting! :) I see your point now, Joshua; just consider me one of those who supports the status quo, and is stopping by to remind Jaranda that many folks agree with his "this is hardly worth discussing" POV. Xoloz 17:12, 10 November 2006 (UTC)
