Jarvis, Ontario
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Jarvis is a small, rustic town in Haldimand County, Ontario, Canada. Commerce is present, including a gas station, a family restaurant, some native-owned businesses, and a pizza place called Little Johnny's Pizza. This town is formerly the home to a franchise of the former Norfolk Co-Operative (now called Norfolk FS). The town is located between Simcoe in neighboring Norfolk County, Townsend, and Cayuga.
Nearby, there is a Christian school that teaches mainly non-Roman Catholic children and a church where the local spiritualist crowd listens to hymns and prayers.
The aerodrome was actually south of Jarvis, closer to Nanticoke and Lake Erie. In 1955 the runways were turned into an automobile race track called Harewood Acres, which was one of the premiere road race courses in North America for almost a decade. In 1970, the site was sold to an oil company and turned into a refinery, which it is to this day.
