Jarryd Hayne (born February 15, 1988) is a rugby league player currently playing for the Parramatta Eels, in the National Rugby League. At the start of the 2006 season he was not a regular member of the first team, however injuries and poor form from his teammates gave him his first grade debut. His foray into the limelight has not been without incident, with allegations that he bit a woman at a night club. No charges were brought against Hayne, however the team, in the wake of previous disciplinary breaches by teammates, fined the 18-year-old for his ill discipline.
Regardless of trouble off the field, Hayne looks likely to be a future superstar of the game, scoring 17 tries in the first 14 games of his career. His position of choice is at wing but he also has experience at fullback. He is the son of former NRL player, Manoa Thompson and nephew of former player Terry Hill. At the end of the 2006 season, Hayne became the second Eel to be named Rookie of the Year in as many years (Tim Smith received the award in 2005.) He was also selected in the 2006 Tri-Nations squad but did not play.
