Jaroslav Modrý (Born February 27, 1971 in České Budějovice, Czechoslovakia) is a professional hockey defenceman for the Los Angeles Kings.
[edit] Playing career
During his minor league hockey career, Modry played for Ceske Budejovice HC and Dukla Trencin of the Czech Hockey League. Modry also played for the AHL's Albany River Rats and IHL's Long Beach Ice Dogs and Utah Grizzlies. Jaroslav was selected in the ninth round in the 1989 NHL Entry Draft by the New Jersey Devils. Modry debuted in the NHL in 1993 for the Devils. On July 9, 1995, Jaroslav was traded to the Ottawa Senators then in March of 1996 he was traded to the Los Angeles Kings. It was in Los Angeles that Jaroslav started to see more NHL playing time and it was in the 2000-2001 season that Modry began playing full seasons in the NHL. In 2002-2003 he enjoyed his finest offensive season to date scoring 13 goals and adding 25 assists. Modry became a free agent after the 2003-2004 and signed a contract with the Atlanta Thrashers on July 1, 2004. During the NHL Lockout of 2004-2005 Jaroslav played for Liberec Bili Tygri of the Czech Hockey League. At the 2006 NHL Entry Draft he was traded with Patrik Stefan to the Dallas Stars for Niko Kapanen and a draft pick.
On February 27, 2007 he was traded from the Dallas Stars to the Los Angeles Kings in a trade involving Mattias Norström.
