  • I would support consistency among names. I do not have a personal preference for either name order. Radiant_>|< 17:10, 15 November 2005 (UTC)
Please express your opinions, whether for one system or another or simply for or against systematization, at Wikipedia:Manual of Style (Japan-related articles). Thanks Fg2 20:40, 15 November 2005 (UTC)

This issue has already been discussed at Wikipedia:Manual of Style for Japan-related articles/Name order, where, after much discussion, things fell back to the status quo, which was to use the form of the name by which a person was best known by. That means that everybody pre-Meiji is pretty simple--use surname given name order. Even for most figures up through World War II, that name order is pretty much the standard. It is only for modern individuals with international fame (prime ministers, film directors, actors, etc.) where the western name order is found the most often. Japanese_name#Japanese_names_in_English covers this in more detail. BlankVerse 10:15, 30 December 2005 (UTC)

I favor Surname, Given name order for all periods. Presently the Manual of Style has this form for all historical persons, and for modern persons, there is room for decision. My preference is Surname, Given name for all Japanese people. Fg2 08:38, 1 January 2006 (UTC)

To reiterate what I said above, any discussion should take place at Wikipedia:Manual of Style for Japan-related articles/Name order because lots of people watch that page. Fg2 08:40, 1 January 2006 (UTC)
