[edit] Nov 2006
I've created this template to facilitate access to editing on the ethnicity templates. It can be a bit daunting to have to tease out of an article what to edit in a traditional {{Ethnic group}} template format. This method allows for folks to be able to concentrate on just the infobox itself. (→Netscott) 05:41, 27 November 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Formatting
Can you make it wider and/or reduce the text size in the foreign populations section? When it was wider it was much shorter, but now many of the foreign population lines are being broken up over two lines. Dekimasu 09:09, 27 November 2006 (UTC)
- Greetings Dekimasu, I've essentially just copied the template over from the Japanese people article and I've not changed any of the formatting. I invite you to discuss the formatting of this infobox with the folks at Talk:Japanese people who've been working on the layout/display of this box. (→Netscott) 12:59, 27 November 2006 (UTC)
- While I didn't originally add the box, I did add the picture and most of the information to it, and for one reason or another it isn't displaying at the same width that it was at before. If you can tell me how to adjust the width manually here, I'll take responsibility for the changes shown on the Japanese people page. Dekimasu 15:10, 27 November 2006 (UTC)
- I've added non-breaking space characters ( ) to reduce the line breakage you're talking about. This should display fine now. :-) (→Netscott) 16:35, 27 November 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Tnavbar
I don't have a major problem with the new position of the tnavbar information, or the fact that view/edit are spelled out, but its visibility gives it a metadata problem. I think writing "this box" at the end of the box will distract readers from the contents of the box when it appears on other pages. The upper-right position of the tnavbar info mirrors the editing buttons of pages and sections, which I think makes it less distracting. Can we move it to the top of the box, take out "this box", and leave the words spelled out? Dekimasuが... 08:12, 17 February 2007 (UTC)
- Hello again Dekimasu, you can experiment as you like with the template and layout before it goes online as you are likely aware. Just edit in your userspace like: User:Dekimasu/Japanese ethnicity the code to have Tnavbar display as you'd like is {{Tnavbar|Japanese ethnicity|plain=1|nodiv=1}} which produces: →Netscott) 12:34, 17 February 2007 (UTC) Hope that helps. - Hi Dekimasu – I'd say there are two drawbacks in placing the Tnavbar in the upper-right corner of the box:
- It may mirror the position of edit buttons on pages and sections, but pages and sections are much wider than an infobox, meaning the [edit] link (or v·d·e links, etc) are not close to the page/section's title, i.e. unlikely to distract attention from it. Although placing the Tnavbar at the bottom of the infobox is not necessarily the only solution, it seems to be one used in other infoboxes (e.g. the "Politics of Country" infoboxes). (I guess this is because offering the Tnavbar links is the least important function of the infobox.)
- In the upper-right corner of the infobox, the Tnavbar links sit on the titlebar's dark brown background, making them more difficult to read (unlike the rest of the infobox). At least, that's the result here. I've previously experimented with trying to alter the color of the links, but it doesn't look straightforward.
- If, though, you're really keen on the upper-right position, I won't stand in your way. Maybe some more opinions might be useful...? Regards, David Kernow (talk) 13:20, 17 February 2007 (UTC)

- After some reflection, I think my main objection is to the "this box" text. I looked at the "Politics of XXX" infoboxes and I'll withdraw my objection to putting the links at the bottom of the template. How about remvoing "this box" and leaving the rest of the formatting the same? Dekimasuが... 14:44, 17 February 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Samurai image is not suitable
Image:Satsuma-samurai-during-boshin-war-period.jpg is not suitable for Japanese ethnicity template in comparison with other Category: Ethnicity templates as it is simply a photo shot of samurais of the rebel army of modern era, pls. see Boshin_War.--121.114.131.235 11:45, 12 March 2007 (UTC)
