Japanese Southern China Area Army

The Japanese Southern China Area Army was formed February 9th 1940 and disbanded 26 June 1941. Headquartered in Canton, its responsibility was the direct control of Guangdong and control of the 22nd Army in Guangxi. On that date the Area Army was organized as:

South China Front Army - Gen. Rikichi Ando

  • 18th Division - Lt. Gen. Seiichi Kuno
  • 38th Division - Lt. Gen. Yoji Fujii
  • 104th Division - Lt. Gen.l Kisaburo Hamamoto
  • 106th Division - Lt. Gen. Ryotaro Nakai (9 March 1940 - disbanded) *
  • 22nd Army (Nanning) - Lt. Gen Seiichi Kunou
    • 5th Division - General Hitoshi Imamura
    • Guards Mixed Brigade , - Major Gen. Takeshi Sakurada
    • Taiwan Mixed Brigade - Major Gen. Sadaichi Shioda
  • 21st Independent Aviation Corps.

  • On March 9, the 106th division was recalled to Japan for demobilization from Central China. It was disbanded in Central China in April 1940 never having reached South China.
