Japan Domestic Airlines
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
NKA Japan Domestic Airlines, 日本近距離航空, or "NKA Nihon-Kinkyori-Koukuu", was the predecessor of Japan Air System, which operated as a sister airline to TDA Toa Japanese Airlines, 東亜航空, or "TDA Toa Koukuu", from the mid 1960's to the early 1990's. Nearly all of the aircraft used in the fleet were consisted of NAMC YS-11's. Both airlines had a similar color scheme from the beginning, usually blue and white, or with a blue tail. In the early 1980's the proprietary color schemes were replaced by a rainbow-stripe scheme but featured different routes and domestic services within Japan. Japan Domestic Airlines focused mostly on mainland to island flights, while Toa Japanese Airlines focused on more domestic mainland flight plans and services. These 2 airlines merged to become Japan Air System in the late 1980's, which featured the same rainbow-stripe color scheme but used jets and other aircraft until the early 2000's, when Japan Air System merged with Japan Airlines because of financial problems and lack of service on Japan Air System's behalf. Both of these historical Japanese airlines were very successful during the time of their operation.
