I made some corrections.
- Colored Kunashiri and Etorofu red. The Shimoda Treaty (1854) drew a border between Kunashiri Island and Urup Island.
- Striped Sakhalin/Karafuto. The Shimoda Treaty (1854) didn't set a border on this island. What's why the Treaty for the Exchange of Sakhalin for the Kurile Islands (1875) was conducted.
- Dropped a local name that failed to gain international recognition.
- Deleted "Cheju (1937)". What's this?
- Replaced "Tsushima Strait (1905)" with "Tsushima Strait." What's the business of "(1905)"?
- Striped Okinawa. Replaced "RYUKYU IS. 1874-1879" with "RYUKYU IS. 1872-1879".
- Moved the text "East China Sea" a bit westward.

[edit] The "H" in "Ryuhkyu"
Any chance of deleting it?
[edit] Couple more things
Very nice work on the map! A couple of corrections:
- "Ryunkyu" should be Ryukyu (and what does 1872-1879 mean?)
- Sichuan isn't where it's indicated on the map

??
Nice map, but a couple of things to improve it.
1. Instead of saying "Acquisitions/Additional Occupation Until...", "Acquisition By..." might read better. "Until" makes it sound like after that date, it was lost/liberated. "By" reinforces that it continued. 2. I think Nanjing should be marked on the map. It is an important incident during World War II and this is essentially a World War II map. 3. It might also be helpful to have Hiroshima and Nagasaki noted, too. Not as significant as having Nanjing (as the map is about acquisition/occupation), but good to have for those curious to the location of these cities. --Sir Edgar 23:58, 31 October 2005 (UTC)
[edit] New version
I've fixed the spelling of Ryukyu, removed the Sichuan text (Sichuan is under the key), and fixed the grammar in the key. The new version is on the commons at Image:Japanese Empire2.png. Mark1 11:27, 22 December 2005 (UTC)
