[edit] Physics news

Please consider also adding any physics news listed here to Portal:Physics/News. Thanks. Mike Peel 18:12, 13 January 2007 (UTC)

Thanks for making us aware of that article. I'm curious what the approach to the inclusion of articles in that section is? My impression of the Portal:Current events approach (which is mine for this sub page, as well) is that an item is in the news in a way that makes users of WP come to us for more background information. Therefore, I did (up to now) not consider adding items taken from monthly popular magazines, like New Scientist or Scientific American. They already have much background information in those articles. Instead, I try to pickup BBC news, or Reuters, or news items where peer-reviewed articles are announced/summarized by other news agencies. Any comments? Awolf002 18:26, 13 January 2007 (UTC)
I haven't really set up any criteria for inclusion on the physics portal page. When I started working on it, it only listed articles on Wikinews. When I submitted the portal as a featured portal candidate, I was told that the news section should be kept up-to-date (i.e. not just wikinews), and should wikilink to the appopriate wikipedia articles rather than just to wikinews. I went to the places I normally get my news from, and filled it in from there.
Ideally, I guess that the news section should cover all notable physics news, regardless of the source of the news. Which source is attributed for the news item is more a matter of the editor's choice, though (although it should always be to a respectable news source). Mike Peel 18:33, 13 January 2007 (UTC)
