If this article seems slightly unusual it's because most of the original text comes from the (public domain) 1911 Encyclopaedia Britannica. I'm not sure where that leaves Wikipedia contributors in terms of editing the text. Personally I'd prefer to see an entirely new article built up from scratch, with references to older sources, rather than start with an old scholarly text and let it gradually be morphed into something else.
