Jang Jae Ho

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Jang "Spirit_Moon" Jae Ho (born December 14, 1986) is a South Korean professional gamer of the popular Blizzard real-time strategy game called Warcraft III. Jang Jae Ho is currently playing for the world renowned gaming team Meet Your Makers. He is seen by many as the best Night Elf player in the world. Jang Jae Ho is currently ranked #3 in international competition and #1 in Korean competition throughout history.

He is particularly known by for his excellent micromanagement and innovative strategies. He is often seen using strategies that later set the benchmark for many Night Elf players and was nicknamed the "5th Race" by Gametv.com.

As a player he has gained global fame for one of the most dominant tournament win streaks in the history of the game Warcraft III The Frozen Throne. In 2005, he almost went completely undefeated and had summed up a grand total of approximately $83,000 USD from tournaments and league prize money alone.

A rivalry between him and Manuel "Grubby" Schenkhuizen developed late 2004 as both players won several major tournaments but rarely met themselves due to Jang Jae Ho mainly entering professional tournaments taking place in South-Korea and Manuel Schenkhuizen mainly participating in international competition. They met several times since, high profile matches include:

- The semi-finals of the World E-Sport Games Masters (a major televised league in Asia) for a chance to compete in the $37,000 USD finals. Jang Jae Ho lost 1-3.

- Match 1 of the second edition of SuperFight (a televised competition in South-Korea) which had $10,000 USD at stake. Jang Jae Ho won 2-0.

- The finals of the first season of MBCGame's World War in 2007 (the most important televised WarCraft III competition in recent times) which had $15,000 at stake and would give the winner a chance to compete again next season. Jang Jae Ho won 3-0.

Jang Jae Ho remains one of the strongest players of recent times, recently re-signing his contract with Meet Your Makers until February 2008.

He plays 2v2 with his teammate Jae Wook "Lucifer" Noh in various leagues and tournaments.

[edit] Strategies and Techniques

  • AoW Creeping Technique: Jae Ho is known for his excellent use of the Ancient of War to aid in taking out difficult creep camps. In addition, his hero and/or units will take only a minimal amount of damage.
  • Master Talons Strategy: Jae Ho is known for not creating, but popularizing and improving this strategy against Orc by using Firelord or Tinker as 3rd-Hero. He used this strategy to defeat Manuel "Grubby" Schenkhuizen many times.
  • Night Elf Towering/Tower Push Strategy: The Night Elf towering/tower push is one of Jae Ho's signature and classic strategies. He uses this strategy mainly for the Undead vs. Night Elf match-up.
  • Night Elf Tri-Hero Pitlord Strategy: Jae Ho is highly praised for his incorporation of the pitlord in his playing. He uses this strategy specifically for the Night Elf vs. Human match-up. Although the Pitlord is regarded as a weak hero by players, Jae Ho denies this opinion with his effective use of the Pitlord to decimate the Human casters.
  • Mass Master-Bears Strategy : Jae Ho popularized the use of master Druid of the Claw vs Orc. Today this strategy is very common in the Night Elf vs. orc match-up.
  • Orb of Venom Strategy : Jae Ho was among the first who equipped his heroes with an Orb of Venom in order to counter harassment by Undead gargolyes.
  • Mass Expansion Strategy : When Jae Ho started to use this strategy, Blizzard Entertainment (the developers of Warcraft III) tried to weaken it by releasing a patch. Today it is still used by many Night Elves, especially in combination with the "Mass Archer/Talons + Priestess of the Moon - Strategy" vs Undead on the map Lost Temple.
  • Many people think that Spirit_Moon invented the Druid of the Talons strategy, but in fact he just upgraded it.
