[edit] Biography
Janet Evanovich was born and raised in New Jersey. After studying at Douglass College, part of Rutgers University, Evanovich began writing, sending many manuscripts to several editors and receiving as many refusals in return.
Essentially giving up on her writing dream, Evanovich returned to her former career as a secretary. While working in her new job, she received from an editor interested in Second Chance at Love, a light-hearted romance novel. She sold that book and eleven similar ones, all of which were no more than modest successes and were quickly out of print.
Gathering the lessons she had learned from her previous publications, Evanovich branched into a different genre, penning a series of light-hearted mysteries starring barely-competent bounty hunter Stephanie Plum. These novels have been very successful, earning spots on the New York Times BestSeller List.
Evanovich is known for her strong female characters, including Plum and the lovable "Grandma Mazur."
Once Evanovich had gained mainstream success, she edited and slightly rewrote her earlier romance novels, all of which have been re-released under her real name.
Evanovich currently lives in New Hampshire with her husband, Pete. Their son, Peter, manages his mother's financial affairs, while their daughter, Alex, has created her mother's website.
