Jan Smit (singer)

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Jan Smit (born December 31, 1985 in Volendam), is a Dutch singer. He scored his first number one position in the Dutch charts in 1997, with Ik zing dit lied voor jou alleen. Being 12 years of age back then, he still called himself Jantje Smit (Little Jan Smit).

Smit was discovered by BZN, who used his vocals in a duet called Mama. He has released several albums in Dutch and German since.

In 2001 Smit won the Exportprijs for his succes in Germany, France and Italy.

In 2006 Smit scored another two number one positions in the Dutch charts with Als de morgen is gekomen (one of the ten top-selling songs of 2006) and Cupido (the Christmas Number 1 song).

Smit's Ik zing dit lied voor jou alleen has been parodied by Ome Henk, in a comical number titled Ik zing dit lied voor Ome Henk. In 1997 Smit toured South Africa with popular Afrikaans singer NĂ¡dine.
