  • "Jan Nowak" (pronounced: [jan 'nɔvak]) is commonly regarded to be the most widespread personal name in Poland and hence often serves as the Polish equivalent of the English "John Doe". Another Polish name thought to be very popular is "Jan Kowalski". Also, in the Czech Republic, a very similar phenomenon is represented by the very similar name Jan Novák (see Jan Novák, composer, there is also Jan Novák, a writer in Chicago).
