Jan Budtz (born April 20, 1979) is a Danish footballer, currently playing for Wolves on loan from Doncaster Rovers. He is also the twin brother of Ole Budtz, who currently plays for the danish club, Aarhus GF.

Jan became an instant hero in his first game for Doncaster Rovers when he replaced the injured Andy Warrington during the Carling Cup match with Manchester City in 2005. One of his first actions was to pull off a magnificent last minute save to deny Darius Vassell a 25 yard stike by tipping it round the post. When the match finally went to penalties, Jan saved two of the three taken by Manchester City (the first penalty being taken by Darius Vassell hitting the crossbar). Doncaster won the shootout 3-0 with Jan's name being plastered all over local and national newspapers the following day. He also made several appearances on local TV news channels.[[1]]

Following his day of glory, he largely failed to progress from this. Although he enjoyed a good run in the first team in the 2005/2006 season, he was increasingly side-lined when Doncaster Rovers signed Alan Blaney from Southampton for £50,000. [[2]]

By the beginning of the 2006/2007 season, he was down to 3rd choice behind Benjamin Smith and Alan Blaney.

Budtz recently signed on an emergency loan to Wolverhampton Wanderers from Doncaster Rovers. He has since signed a six week extension and made his debut on the 17th March against Sheffield Wednesday at Hillsborough, the game ended 2-2.

[edit] Trivia

  • He was a Manchester United supporter as a kid despite liking FC Kobenhavn from Denmark.
