[edit] Wikification

Dear James, welcome to Wikipedia. Thank you very much for all your contributions recently. I would like to ask you, however, if in the future you could make sure your articles have links to other articles. You can do that by adding [[...]] around a word. That turns it into a link to a different article. I wikified some of your articles, so you if you edit those, you can see how it works. For example: Gileston, Jennifer Sullivan and Lucy Cohen. Good luck editing, Cpt. Morgan (Reinoutr) 10:32, 26 June 2006 (UTC)

Hello James, I think you are doing a terrific job on adding all that information on Tibet. I do have some more tips for you though:

  • It is common to state the topic name in bold in the first sentence. You can do that by putting '''...''' around it, like this: bold.
  • You can easily sign comments on Talk and User pages by typing four tildes (~~~~), this will automatically change into your username and the date.
  • It is a good idea to categorize articles. You can do that by adding [[Category: Tibet]] to the bottom of an article page. (for Tibet related articles)
  • If your article contains only little information, you can add {{Tibet-stub}} instead. (for Tibet related articles)
  • Finally, always check if an article already exists. Your article on Mt Kailas already existed under an other name, Mount Kailash. I changed the first one to redirect to the already existing article. You can do that by put only #REDIRECT [[otherarticle]] in the text of the article.

Keep up the good work! Cpt. Morgan (Reinoutr) 21:20, 26 June 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Enthusiasm

Hi James, I love the enthusiasm with which you have added a lot of articles to Wikipedia! Keep up the good work! If you have any questions regarding wikification or Wikipedia policies, I would be glad to help you out. Regards Cpt. Morgan (Reinoutr) 13:57, 28 June 2006 (UTC)

P.S. You can easily sign comments on Talk and User pages by typing four tildes (~~~~), this will automatically change into your username and the date when you submit the changes.

[edit] Wow

Thanks for all the contributions! Content's what Wikipedia's all about and all your prolific work in your first 2 weeks is really impressive, especially since you're filling in important geographical gaps and making Wikipedia less Anglo-centric. I see the comments above about wikification -- those are good points and basic wikification is not that hard. Just the same, content is so important -- keep it coming. --A. B. 18:19, 28 June 2006 (UTC)

And I second that. Hopefully people familiar with all those African cities will expand on them. In the mean time, keep up the good work. And perhaps start a use page. Czolgolz 19:45, 28 June 2006 (UTC)

Surfing may not be well covered, but a new article should be verifiable, preferably with sources, and should make it clear why a person is notable. Hundreds of unknown (music) bands have their articles deleted as non-notable, and surfers are no different. Incidentally you can sign your messages using four tildes ~~~~, jimfbleak 12:32, 30 June 2006 (UTC)

If he is notable for the reasons you state, say so in the article. Incidentally you can sign your messages using four tildes ~~~~, jimfbleak 19:09, 30 June 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Tibet, Tibet

Hi! Thanks for your various contributions related to Tibet. Good work. It would be additionally useful if you could provide the Wylie spellings for the places that you are writing about. Thanks again, Nat Krause(Talk!) 20:32, 2 July 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Categories

Hello James and thank you very much for your geography-related contributions. Your work here is on a progressive path but I should tell you some about categorization. It is common rule here that we put categories into the most specific ones, so-called "subcategorization". For example this article - Brereton, Barbados , should be only in Cat:Cities, towns and villages in Barbados category, same with the others. You can also insert geo-stubs there, if (for example) "Madagascar-geo-stub" doesn't exist, simply use "AfricaS-geo-stub" (for Southern Africa) etc. . Thank you. Leave me a message when you will need any advice or help. Again, thank you for your contributions and good luck! - Darwinek 11:02, 4 July 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Hi James - editing your userpage

Hello! Welcome to the community! I have been reading your user page, and had a cursory look at your edits, and I just wanted to say THANKS for all your work.

I also noticed that you had asked for help on creating a user page for yourself, and I thought maybe I might interject a little (even though you have never contacted me previously). There are some really cool features about the Wikipedia software that you may not be 100% aware of. I should note that I am NOT an administrator, just a fellow enthusiastic editor just like you.

Okay, some of the cool things you can do: Your user page can have "sub pages", that is, you could type this path into your browser: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User:James_Janderson/User/Profile and it would take you to an EDIT page. You can then create a little box of something, like maybe poetry or something crazy like that. Once you've saved that, you can then "insert" that article (just like templates) into your main page (./wiki/User:James_Janderson) by putting {{User:James_Janderson/User/Profile}} in your user page. It's a neat way to dress up your page. You can actually do the same for your TALK page if you want - some users do that (though I haven't). If you want to see an example, have a look at my profile page and figure out how it all works. And by all means, don't be afraid to ask if you have ANY questions about anything!! If you are curious, I learned how to dress up my page from Sango123 who is an incredibly helpful and very friendly administrator.

Finally, since you are a geography-oriented sort of fellow, perhaps I could interest you in a little project I have been working on. I don't know if this is even remotely related to your area of expertise, but have a look at WP:LAKES, and see if it sparks your interest. Don't feel obligated though ... I just thought I'd ask :D

Cheers! I hope to hear back from you! (reply on my talk page so I am sure to notice) Em3rald 10:14, 6 July 2006 (UTC)

WELL, my Welsh friend, we'll get you straightened out with regards to sub pages, then! Haha, first off, not all articles in Wikipedia can have sub-pages. I guess a year or two ago they used to allow sub pages for everything, but it was causing issues with their search engine or something. Anyway, you can create as many sub pages as you want under your USER name. For example, *I* have lots ... if you look at your user page's address (URL), it's http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User:James_Janderson. Well, we can ignore the stuff up to .../wiki/ for our purposes. So now, if you use the address .../User:James_Janderson/BLABLABLA, you would get a new sub-page called BLABLABLA. Now, lets say you put "This is my super useful sub page" in there and save it. Okay, now you go back to your user page (.../User:James_Janderson) and add {{User:James_Janderson/BLABLABLA}} at the bottom of the page and save it. Your user page will now have This is my super useful sub page appended to the end of your article.

Yah, so that doesn't look impressive yet. But if you changed each sub-page to an HTML table (like MY user page), then linked them all with the {{User:James_Janderson/subpagename}} to your user page, then you would suddenly have a much cooler page that is easy to manage.

It's actually super easy once you wrap y'er head around it :D

Now, with regard to the lakes, YES! Definitely create some lake articles ... the more the better. The more content the better, of course ;). You can check Stats Canada for some brief, useful information to add to your articles. Also, it's cool if you can put the {{Infobox lake}} into the article and check Template:Infobox_lake to see how to use it (and don't be afraid to ask if you have any questions about it ... no such thing as a silly question!), or look at a major lake like Lake Huron or a recent new article like Lac Mistassini for a good example.

Also note: When you create an article, if it's got a really common sounding name (for example Long Lake, it's best if you can add the province or state that it's in (Long Lake (Alberta) is the accepted standard here on Wikipedia. And if it's got a common sounding name, and it happens to overlap provinces (say, Alberta & Saskatchewan), then you'd use Lake Name (Canada) because the chances that there is another lake of the same name that overlaps 2 provinces is extremely unlikely, but that same lake name might exist in some other country (like the US), in which case you would use either Lake Name (Country), or Lake Name (State). I know ... rules rules rules ... but I am sure you understand why, eh? It's all in the name of "making wikipedia look professional" ;).

Whew ... that was a lot of typing. Sorry about that ... I get verbose at 4 or 5 in the morning (I am in Alberta, Canada) ... nightshift tonight.

Chat with you later! Em3rald 11:06, 6 July 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Template:Image source

I have reverted your edit to Template:Image source. This is a template which is included many places, and should not be edited. Thue | talk 12:51, 7 July 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Tibetan template

Hi! Thanks for your work on articles such as Lobsang Palden Yeshe. You might find it convenient to start using the template I made for Tibetan names, Template:Bo. For instance, the way I used it in Lobsang Palden Yeshe looks like {{bo|t=བློ་བཟང་གྤལ་ལྡན་ཡེ་ཤེས་་|w=Blo-bzang Gpal-ldan Ye-shes|z=Lobsang Baidain Yêxê}}. This gives us a standard formatting. Cheers, Nat Krause(Talk!) 19:08, 7 July 2006 (UTC)

[edit] License tagging for Image:Jetsun-pema-149.jpg

Thanks for uploading Image:Jetsun-pema-149.jpg. Wikipedia gets thousands of images uploaded every day, and in order to verify that the images can be legally used on Wikipedia, the source and copyright status must be indicated. Images need to have an image tag applied to the image description page indicating the copyright status of the image. This uniform and easy-to-understand method of indicating the license status allows potential re-users of the images to know what they are allowed to do with the images.

For more information on using images, see the following pages:

This is an automated notice by OrphanBot. If you need help on selecting a tag to use, or in adding the tag to the image description, feel free to post a message at Wikipedia:Media copyright questions. 22:06, 7 July 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Image Tagging for Image:Siberiacrash.jpg

Thanks for uploading Image:Siberiacrash.jpg. The image has been identified as not specifying the source and creator of the image, which is required by Wikipedia's policy on images. If you don't indicate the source and creator of the image on the image's description page, it may be deleted some time in the next seven days. If you have uploaded other images, please verify that you have provided source information for them as well.

For more information on using images, see the following pages:

[edit] Paradis, Ontario

Just to let you know...the Canadian census data site doesn't list any community in Ontario called Paradis, but it does list a community in Ontario called Paradis Bay. So I've moved your article to the title Paradis Bay, Ontario. Bearcat 23:00, 10 July 2006 (UTC)

Actually, based on a couple of your other contributions, I think I see now what you thought you were doing: Paradis, Oskelaneo and Parent are all within relatively short distances of each other on the northern Canadian National Railway line. Except that they're all in Quebec, not Ontario. Bearcat 23:24, 10 July 2006 (UTC)
In case I wasn't clear enough, Paradis Bay, Ontario and Paradis, Quebec are two different things; from the fact that you wrote up the neighbouring communities of Oskelaneo and Parent at the same time, I'm guessing that you were actually thinking of the one in Quebec even though you wrote Ontario in the article. I've fixed things so that all of the localities are reflected at their correct names and provinces. Bearcat 08:16, 11 July 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Village Entries

Just a heads up. You link the word commune in each of your entries. This is good but the page you link to is actually a disambugation page. You might consider linking to the actual definition that you mean. Dipics 14:40, 13 July 2006 (UTC)

You probably mean comune. Also, the Category:Cities and towns in Italy is undergoing re-categorization and organization. For example - Category:Cities in Abruzzo and Category:Towns in Abruzzo are being combined into Category:Cities and towns in Abruzzo. New comune entries should be placed in this latter category. A similar recategorization will occur for each region of Italy, so each has just one parent category: "Cities and towns in *region*". You can see Category talk:Cities and towns in Italy for the proposed new scheme. - AKeen 16:33, 13 July 2006 (UTC)
And please include interwiki links... without them the articles are nearly worthless. See this edit to San Mango d'Aquino. Punkmorten 10:16, 15 July 2006 (UTC)
Yes. Because they (especially the Italian Wikipedia) provide a source for expansion. Thank you. Punkmorten 10:22, 15 July 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Town articles

Please add a period to the end of the text you're copying and pasting into all of the Italian town articles. It will make it easier for other editors who will have to later add them to dozens of articles. (|-- UlTiMuS ( U | T | C | E ) 17:54, 13 July 2006 (UTC)

Popoli has the following text: "Popoli is a comune and town in the Province of Pescara in the Abruzzo region of Italy"
There is no period at the end, and this is a recurring ternd in your articles. Please add a period to whatever you're copy/pasting so other people don't have to do this later and waste precious time.
And sadly, status at Wikipedia is not judged by how many articles you may have made. (|-- UlTiMuS ( U | T | C | E ) 18:03, 13 July 2006 (UTC)

Well actually I didn't delete your article. Someone else did, and probably for good reason. And I don't know why you're making so many articles anyway if, as you say, you don't know what a period is. Also, since you are admitting to having 100 alternate accounts, be aware of WP:SOCK. Sockpuppetry is serious buissiness. (|-- UlTiMuS ( U | T | C | E ) 18:13, 13 July 2006 (UTC)
Also, your userpage is not the place to complain about having your articles deleted. And Plkease use the {{inuse}} tag to signify that you are working on articles so they are not deleted. (|-- UlTiMuS ( U | T | C | E ) 18:15, 13 July 2006 (UTC)

Its an expression i have Like seven my kneices do to and sorry if you didnt[1]

Then rest assured that a sockpuppetry investigation is underway. I see no reason for anyone to have 7 accounts but to bypass policy. (|-- UlTiMuS ( U | T | C | E ) 18:23, 13 July 2006 (UTC)
To James: Seriously, you're on Wikipedia. You're making tons of articles with copied grammatical errors. You claim that you don't know what a period is, despite the fact that an article about it is a click away. I'm speechless. 18:23, 13 July 2006 (UTC)(|-- UlTiMuS ( U | T | C | E )
James: I already clearly told you what you're doing wrong and gave you an example. And Click here to find out what a period is. I can't possibly make it any clearer. (|-- UlTiMuS ( U | T | C | E ) 18:32, 13 July 2006 (UTC)
I am glad we got that sorted out. (|-- UlTiMuS ( U | T | C | E ) 18:38, 13 July 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Keep up the good work

Hi James, its good to see that you are still doing a lot of work on Wikipedia. Starting new pages, even stubs, makes it easier for other people to expand such an article, so I think what you are doing is very useful.

As an advice, try not to get too excited over comments and remarks from other editors. Most of them mean no harm (thats even an official policy here: Wikipedia:Assume good faith). And most discussion come from misunderstandings. That is also the case for the discussion above this one. Besides the discussion over periods/full stops, some of the comments from User:Ultimus were not directed at you but at another user (User:Goren of the stone). That was not very obvious any longer, because you deleted the comment by that user, which was the origin for those discussions. Although the comment had nothing to do with you (and therefore it made sense to remove it), this started the misunderstanding on sockpuppetry: [2]. Again, keep up the good work! Cpt. Morgan (Reinoutr) 09:53, 14 July 2006 (UTC)

Hi James, thanks for your message. Good luck editing! One last suggestion, though. It is better not to use that many CAPITALIZED text when editing talk pages. It is considered the equivalent of shouting, so some people might find it offensive. All the best, Cpt. Morgan (Reinoutr) 13:22, 14 July 2006 (UTC)

[edit] al-Rus

James - I am wondering if you have any more info on the town Al-Rus? (You created the article, that's why I'm asking.) I've been trying to figure out if it and Jabal Umm al Ru'us are the same town, unsuccessfully. Google has been unhelpful. Thanks. Picaroon9288 21:32, 15 July 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Category:Subdivisions_of_Mongolia

Hi, I see that several people have already complimented on your enthusiasm. Although I share that sentiment by principle, I would still like to point out that the sheer number of articles created is not a good measure of success, the amount of actual information added is much more important. Articles like Tsagaannuur don't add anything that can't already be found in Bayan-Ölgiy Province, so creating them may not be the most productive use of your time. Another problem especially with mongolian Sums is that their names are often not unique. For example, there are several places named Tsagaannuur (= "white lake") in different parts of the country. You should probably rename this one to Tsagaannuur, Bayan-Ölgiy. --Latebird 18:20, 16 July 2006 (UTC)

I just noticed that you created both Hangayn Mountains and Khangay Mountains. Those are two different spellings of the same mountain range, of which the second is probably more appropriate. Please be a bit more careful about creating articles. Just because there is a red link somewhere, doesn't necessarily justify creating a stub. Please also note that words in titles are usually written in lower case except for the first one or proper names. Check Wikipedia:Naming conventions for reference. --Latebird 18:28, 16 July 2006 (UTC)

Copied the following reply from User talk:Latebird to keep the discussion in one place. Please also reply here. --Latebird 14:35, 17 July 2006 (UTC)
He yes I can understand what you mean and apologies for those Mongolian articles which are not wholly unique. My aim of expanding them was look at other countries. They all have lists of sub-divisions even in less well-known countries so I was hoping to reduce uneven coverage on wikipedia by the Mongolia ones. Also while they may start as a basic stub I always hope that it will encourage more people to add info into a good article which would a be a worthy encyclopedia entry. Just because some may have similar names and as yet not much info is on them doesn't mean that they are not worth starting. It is just enthusiasm for the project that makes me want it to expand so others can add on top of that. Do you see where I am coming from? Also I have not just created geo-stubs I am very capable of writing high quality articles Tashilhunpo, Potala, Ramoche Temple, Shalu Monastery which are all mine. If I had more info I would then expand the Mongolian districts into more detail.
James Janderson 08:26, 17 July 2006 (UTC)

I do know about your real articles, and I'm happy about them because they actually help our users. On the other side, one-sentence substubs don't help anyone. Experience shows that an empty shell doesn't necessarily encourage other editors to fill it. It just serves to disappoint and annoy our users, who were hoping to learn something when clicking the blue link. And this kind of disappointment can easily damage the reputation of the project. As I already said, the number of articles is irrelevant, it is the amount of actual information that makes Wikipedia valuable.

For most small localities in Mongolia, there is simply nothing interesting to say other than statistical trivia, which are better listed in a table with the respective Aymag. Starting an article with zero additional information is pointless, and even more so, when the Aymag article already contains more and better details about a place. I have researched most of the information in the existing Aymag articles. Reliable data were difficult to find, and even more so for the smaller places. This means that many of your stubs will probably remain stubs forever. Do you think this is a desireable situation? --Latebird 14:35, 17 July 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Asteroids discovered by Indiana Asteroid Program

I appreciate your work in changing red links to blue in the list of asteroids discovered by the Indiana Asteroid Program. A word of caution, however: I obviously misspelled at least two names that you carried over into the titles of your articles. Urhixidur has fixed those mistakes; but to avoid similar ones in future, check the names against the listings in Minor Planet Discovery Circumstances or in the Catalog of Minor Objects. The latter will give you information you can insert into the Minor Planet Infobox, a useful feature for asteroid articles. Also, please consider adding the Template:MinorPlanets Navigator and Template:MinorPlanets_Footer to the articles. Finally, please remember that the categories for the article "Indiana Asteroid Program" aren't necessarily appropriate for the individual asteroids that the program discovered. Note Urhixidur's changes to the categories for your stub on 2227 Otto Struve to see what I mean. Cheers! -- Cuppysfriend 20:00, 17 July 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Ottawa County, Ohio

Hey, thanks for pointing that out. I was planning on uploading the images first, and then adding text afterwards. Have a good one. Frank12 13:00, 19 July 2006 (UTC)

Sure. I see you have done good progress. It seems like you edit Wikipedia all day :). I am pleased of your progress and hard work. Keep going. :) -- Darwinek 10:35, 20 July 2006 (UTC)

Oh, thank you! I will create another ones this week and we will have articles on all footballers at 2002 FIFA World Cup! What is your job, if I can ask ? -- Darwinek 10:45, 20 July 2006 (UTC)
So good luck on your career. I am now a student of political sciences at the Palacký University in Olomouc. By the way, I saw you are a Labour Party supporter. :) I would like to ask you about Conservatives. I read something like it is kind of political revival in there under their new leadership. - Darwinek 12:37, 20 July 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Santander Postage

Before changing a title could you please check the article's category first. You would then see that the Wikipedia:WikiProject Philately has adopted this mode of title as its standard and, given that no one has ever challenged it before in over three years, it does qualify as a standard.

Please try not to be so hasty in future. Thank you. --BlackJack | talk page 19:24, 20 July 2006 (UTC)

  • Easily mended and no problem. Thanks for replying. All the best. --BlackJack | talk page 19:33, 20 July 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Nanortalik

I was so surprised to see my scenery image from Nanortalik was put on the Nanortalik article by you within moments after I've uploaded it to the commons. Quite a coincidence! I suggest moving the image down the article a bit, as the one of Nanortalik town is a bit better suited, though less beautiful. Jens Nielsen 13:26, 23 July 2006 (UTC)

Many thanks for the praise! I've uploaded quite a number of images on Commons - have a look at my gallery[3] there. There are a few photo's from Greenland, but I've made tons when I was there - mostly from Nanortalik and surroundings. I'll upload a few more later on. Jens Nielsen 13:53, 23 July 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Basum Tso

By the way, what's your source for saying that "Basum" means "green water"? Looking at a dictionary, it looks to me like it means "three cliffs".—Nat Krause(Talk!) 18:48, 27 July 2006 (UTC)

Ah, yes, I see what you mean. "Cuogao" might could mean "green water". Does your source include the Tibetan spelling by any chance?—Nat Krause(Talk!) 18:51, 29 July 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Italian town stubs

Hey, I see you've been creating a lot of placeholder stubs on Italian towns. There are seven other languages of Wikipedia that already have articles on those towns including much more information, as you can see at Castelnuovo Cilento. It's easy to add the appropriate interlanguage links, since the articles appear to be spelled identically across all versions. So, even if you don't want to go back and add the links to past articles, could you please add them to any future articles you're planning? Melchoir 07:05, 28 July 2006 (UTC)

Please see Wikipedia's no personal attacks policy. Comment on content, not on the contributor; personal attacks damage the community and deter users. Note that continued personal attacks may lead to blocks for disruption. Please stay cool and keep this in mind while editing. Thank you.
I have never talked to you before, and I gave you a politely worded suggestion. Your inflammatory response was not productive. If you really want to get along with your fellow Wikipedians, you're going to have to assume good faith and calm down. Melchoir 08:58, 28 July 2006 (UTC)
Okay then, I've responded at my own talk page. Melchoir 09:22, 28 July 2006 (UTC)

[edit] canadian island stubs

hi james - just a quick note to say that if youre making any more canadian island stubs, canada-geo-stub is only used for places that are in several different provinces (like Belt regions of Canada). smaller places are marked with individual provinces or territory stubs like nunavut-geo-stub or quebec-geo-stub. BL Lacertae - kiss the lizard 19:51, 29 July 2006 (UTC)

s'ok. i only mentioned it becuase you looked like you were making a lot of them. BL Lacertae - kiss the lizard 01:59, 31 July 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Nyannghwe Monastery

Hello, I noticed you created the article "Nyannghwe Monastery". I'm just wondering if that was a spelling error, and that "Nyannghwe" is "Nyaungshwe", because I have never heard of "Nyannghwe" before. --Hintha 04:38, 30 July 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Greece

Thanks for your appreciation. It's a dirty job but someone's got to do it. The most difficult part is finding the right spelling, considering the orthography changes, noun cases, classic and modern Greek, etc. You don't happen to speak modern Greek, do you? Markussep 12:30, 30 July 2006 (UTC)

Hey, thanks. I will continue, but now I'll be taking a little break. Regards, Calgacus (ΚΑΛΓΑΚΟΣ) 15:25, 30 July 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Czech

Hello. I have a few photos but a tight schedule so actually I don't know when I will upload them. Btw I have typed Soseumica Lake to Google and it returned no links. It is probably a spelling error, could you check your atlas please? Actually I have fixed your another spelling error by moving "Onildhy River" to proper "Onilahy River" in Madagascar. - Darwinek 17:23, 1 August 2006 (UTC)

It is possible, but "Onilahy" is far more widely used. I propose before you create some geo-stubs to always check Google, it is useful tool. - Darwinek 20:05, 1 August 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Jean Rossius

I have absolutely no idea who we are talking about here, I can't find any French cyclist named Jean Rossius and certainly he did not win the 1919 Tour de France. There is however a Belgian Cyclist named Jean Rossius of that age who actually won a stage in the 1919 tour de france. However since Jean Rossius could possibly also be a french cyclist, so where did you get that information from then since you created the page? --Pelotastalk 18:56, 1 August 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Towns in Canada

Hi again...please note that the naming convention for Canadian communities is a bit different from those for European ones. Smaller Canadian towns always go at "Town, Province" rather than just "Town"; only major cities can have just "City", and even then only if their name is unique. On a couple of occasions now (Powassan, Biscotasing), you've written up duplicate stubs for topics that already have articles on Wikipedia, so could you please remember to check "Powassan, Ontario" (or whatever) before writing something at Powassan? Thanks. Bearcat 10:30, 3 August 2006 (UTC)

I can only control what I do; I can't always guarantee whether other people will create the appropriate redirects or not (and I can only fix the situation if I actually notice it). So if you check "Town, Province" and there's already an article there, but "Town" doesn't exist as either a redirect or a disambiguation page that includes "Town, Province" in its list, then feel free to add the redirect or the dab entry as appropriate. Bearcat 00:00, 4 August 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Bot for Italian municipalities

I've noticed you've been entering a lot of Italian municipalities, which is helpful. I participate in Wikipedia:WikiProject Missing encyclopedia articles and it's nice to see them get completed. User:Eugene van der Pijll is constructing a bot to copy basic material from other wikipedias, thus doing the first two steps (and part of the third) of your plan. See User:Eubot/Moretta for an example, and feel free to leave comments. Rigadoun (talk) 18:10, 4 August 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Postage Stamps

Hello again, James. Hope you are well.

Yes, I collect "all world" stamps in general but I try to specialise in stamps that were issued during a period of great historical interest such as World War II. I'm glad you like the articles: these are not actually new as I'm stripping postage sections out of country articles so that we can have separate postal articles in the project (as these have been lost to us). All the best. --BlackJack | talk page 14:28, 6 August 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Half Swedish

Hi, I noticed that you're half Swedish, I don't know if you speak or read Swedish, but it would be great if you could translate sv:Riddarhyttan to English (noticed your additions to the article). I don't feel secure enough in the English language to do it myself. /Grillo 17:01, 6 August 2006 (UTC)

Actually, most my articles on Swedish Wikipedia are translations from English Wikipedia, but I feel much more secure in translating from English to Swedish than the opposite, probably beause I'm more used to that. I might expand the article in question in the future, maybe later today... Right now I'm going through all the featured articles on Swedish WP and checking if they are good enough (our criterias for featured used to be very weak...). Thanks for the encouragement, good luck yourself :) /Grillo 17:10, 6 August 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Swiss municipalities and districts

Thanks for your starter! A minor oops: Val-de-Ruz is a district, not a canton. :-) If you'd like to assist further in the task of creating the municipality stubs, let me know. Thanks again BillC 20:02, 6 August 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Jennifer Maggs

OK, I've got to ask. Some kid creates a nonsense article about a girl who plays the clarinet, I tag it for speedy, and you just happen to know, off the top of your head, an academic of the same name? Or did you go out and google to find someone? Just curious. Fan-1967 21:53, 6 August 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Slovakia

Agreed. Also you should be more precise. You have marked this articles with Slovenia-geo-stub. Now you must change it to Slovakia-geo-stub. More work for you. - Darwinek 10:57, 7 August 2006 (UTC)

You have inconsistency in your work. Cat:Villages and municipalities in the Trenčín Region but Cat:Villages and municipalities of the Nitra Region. You better choose one style and fix that. I can then delete unused categories. - Darwinek 11:19, 7 August 2006 (UTC)
Unfortunately I can't help you as I have many own tasks to do. - Darwinek 11:41, 7 August 2006 (UTC)

I am sorry to say that I do not fully understand your intentions. It seems that you are re-categorizing villages in Slovakia into eight regional sub-categories, but in some (perhaps random) cases, you have also created district sub-categories. Good luck and I only hope you will be consistent in your laborious effort and the articles will not belong to three or four redundant categories in the end. It would be perhaps a good idea to propose such a change on the discussion page first, but it is obviously too late for that. Tankred 16:33, 7 August 2006 (UTC)

Thanks for clarifying your plans. You have chosen an extremely time-consuming task, so I wish you good luck and whenever I edit an article about a municipality in Slovakia, I will also try to add the appropriate category. Tankred 14:32, 8 August 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Alba county template

It’s done and it’s already in function. Good luck with your project. Koga 10 August 2006

Oh, something about this template. All the pages for the communes are to be made with x, Alba. For exemple: Almaşu Mare, Alba. Take care, Koga 11 August 2006

[edit] Cardiff (Wales) International Airport

Where did you read that the full name was Cardiff Wales International Airport? The title given on the official website, the front of the building, Google Local and hundreds of websites in a Google search doesn't have the Wales in it. Can you provide a reliable source to show that Wales is part of the title please. Thanks. Alexj2002 23:02, 11 August 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Tore Ruud Hofstad

It is Tore Ruud Hofstad. I will get to his biography that you started in the near future (i.e., next two weeks) and make the necessary adjustments. It looks good, but please be patient. That is all I ask. Thank you. Chris 20:57, 13 August 2006 (UTC)

I plan on doing the redirects on these Scandanavian skiers with the English names, but that is among the last things I will do on my to do list on the FIS Nordic World Ski Championships article. Thank you for your support, but please be patient. I am only but one person and like everything else, it will take time to do this. Chris 21:10, 20 August 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Naming convention for Chinese-related articles

Hi, Thanks for adding various articles on geography in China. Just a note, but there is a standard naming convention on Wikipedia for Chinese-related articles, which can be found at Wikipedia:Naming conventions (Chinese) (i.e. Lake Jingpo is preferred over Jingpo Hu Lake). Thanks.--Confuzion 16:57, 15 August 2006 (UTC)

Nice work, glad to have it, but unless I missed something you didn't cite a single source. Presumably you got this information somewhere... - Jmabel | Talk 05:38, 17 August 2006 (UTC)

Not bad at all. Did any of this have citations in the History of Palma article? - Jmabel | Talk 15:40, 17 August 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Re: Rivers in French Guiana

Oops - thanks for that (and for swapping them over). I hadn't noticed the category :). I'll remember for the other three or four I'm going to do! Grutness...wha? 11:33, 17 August 2006 (UTC)

also check there if there is a french guiana geo stub category. Heh - that's the main reason I'm doing it. Most of my work on WP is as a stub-sorter, and french Guiana is one region which doesn't yet have a stub category. The usual threshold for making a new stub category is 65 stubs, and FG has about 50. So... I'm adding another 15 :) Grutness...wha? 11:43, 17 August 2006 (UTC)
:) thanks for that! Grutness...wha? 11:56, 17 August 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Sierra de Ancares

Thanks for adding the excellent photo. However, I'm concerned there's no info about it's source, copyright status etc. Do you know anything about it? Kahuzi 11:04, 18 August 2006 (UTC)

Hi it is a file from wiki commons but I doubt very much if it is copywright. It looks like a good tourist photo to me.James Janderson 10:36, 19 August 2006 (UTC)

[edit] The Veneto

Oops, I checked the articles, but had not seen that red link at the bottom. I'll nominate one of the categories for deletion; I don't know which one yet, but "in Veneto" sounds better to me. Eugène van der Pijll 12:20, 19 August 2006 (UTC)

It's not important what option is quicker; the articles can be moved automatically, so it won't take anyone's time. (And there is also no need to start moving them now.) Eugène van der Pijll 12:24, 19 August 2006 (UTC)
Actually, I think "the Veneto" is not wrong, so I'll best move the articles to the existing category. There is also a category "Natives of the Veneto" and "Churches in the Veneto". Eugène van der Pijll 12:34, 19 August 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Washington Lighthouses

[edit] Italian towns

Hi, thanks for the encouragement! It's good to see my work is appreciated!

I'm adding the provinces in the order of their official number; Biella and Verbano-Cusio-Ossola have a higher number than the other Piedmont provinces, because they have been established later. I will be doing them later! Eugène van der Pijll 09:22, 20 August 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Amphoe

Thanks for trying to fix those Amphoe articles created by User:Oatz. However, to add a location map there's a much better way than putting the two maps you added - simply add the infobox. For every Amphoe commons already has the necessary map, just add something like {{Infobox Amphoe|name=Bua Yai|thai=บัวใหญ่|province=Nakhon Ratchasima|geocode=3012}}. Regarding your article Amphoe Mueang Nakhon Ratchasima - IMHO articles which just say "xyz is a something of abc" are not really useful, to me a minimal Amphoe article should at least contain the infobox, the neighboring districts and the subdivisions. I am quite busy to add these things to the ones created by Oatz - at least those already have the district history, which is difficult to find without knowing the Thai language. andy 11:42, 22 August 2006 (UTC)

[edit] huh?

Heh, why did you edit my user page? --2dMadness 16:20, 22 August 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Douglas Castle

Thanks for adding the location map, but actually Douglas Castle and Castle Douglas are in two different places, so that map won't do both. Confusing I know, I added a dab link to the former, will do so for the latter too. Thanks, ::Supergolden:: 14:12, 23 August 2006 (UTC)
