In the BBC Sitcom Two Pints of Lager and a Packet of Crisps, Jammie Dodgers are the favourite snack of the central character Jonny Keogh, and hence they are a re-occurring theme in the programme. Series 3, episode 8 is even titled, Jammie Dodgers.
Eddie Izzard, a British stand-up comedian, references Jammie Dodgers in, "Death by Chocolate," the final routine in his "Glorious" performance.
[edit] Etymology
It is rumoured that the word "Jammie Dodger" comes from a ceremonial cake of unlevened bread made to commemorate The French Wars of Religion in the 16th Century. The cake was originally called "Jamais Du Guerre" meaning "Never War".
However, many contest this, claiming that the roots of the name come from Australian slang meaning of 'dodger' which means 'sandwich'. It is believed that the name merely refers to it being a form of sandwich biscuit.
